View Full Version : Overspill of Motor Cars in Crookes
BoppinBruce 14-04-2005, 13:29 I live in Crookes. Its a student populated area of town. I am also employed by a south yorkshire Humberside charity that promotes people with disability. What do these two items have in common. Let me explain if I may.
A house that once held a family that maybe had two cars to park on the road now may house 6/8 students and maybe have 4/6 cars to park on the road. Consequently, vehicles are being parked on pavements, across pavements etc. If you were a person pushing a pram round some of the roads you would be forced into the road to continue your journey. Imagine what this is like for somebody partially sighted, or unsighted, wheelchair bound, or have problems with walking.
I say these offenders should have more consideration for their fellows and park responsibly
Ousetunes 14-04-2005, 13:40 Cars are only half of the problem.
I pity anyone who has to get round Crookes, Crookesmoor and Walkley in a wheelchair due to the fact that students can't be arsed to take their wheelie-bins in at night.
Also, call me naiive, but do students really need cars? I'm amazed they can afford to run them! When they've gone home, which they will do soon (be breaking up for Christmas, won't they?) the place is deserted and look! no wheelie-bins left on the pavement.
And this isn't an anti-student post. I like them: £££££££££!!!!
ring the council and get then to come and ticket them - they will soon shift!!!!
BoppinBruce 14-04-2005, 13:44 Prob is Scott f, they are doing outside a local, once councillers, dont know if he still is, house

didn't get a word of that bruce- sorry mate!!
BoppinBruce 14-04-2005, 14:09 The parking problem is prominant outside either a current, or recent, Sheffield Councillor's house and there is no recourse, so I assume the same would prevail if I approached the council.
it doesn't matter if its a councellers house or not- they are still subject to the same laws as the rest of us!!!
Its the same on my road, one big hill, lots of cars parked and pointed in allsorts of directions.. Daren't leave the house in the car after 7 or I'll have to park in the next street when I get back :suspect:

Not all students are broke
It's incredibly useful having a car in Sheffield. It's so much easier to get to Pizza Hut in eccy road! ;) Seriously though, the buses are so frustrating, and the trams don't run late enough to get one home from the Arena or a late showing at the UGC, that a car is incredibly useful. It's also great for popping to the Tesco for food. Couldn't live without a car - well the girlfriend, since it's her car and she's the driver
Ousetunes 15-04-2005, 07:21 Blimey Hook, you'll have me wanting to be a student next!
Nice one with it being the girly's car. Loads of pub crawls in Derbyshire then, not having to worry about who's driving.
Like it!

Nah, you don't wanna be a student. Too many wasted days that could actually be spent doing something productive. I mean just look at how often I post here, and I've got 10 000 posts at another forum. But I won't start ranting about my own student status in this thread!
But yesh, having the girlfriend drive is very useful. I can drink whenever I want and she has to drive back. I'm waiting for the moment she realises that I can afford to pay to be insured on the car too, and then I'll need to come up with a decent enough excuse to stay off the insurance!
