View Full Version : Who holds the current world water speed record? little malc 14-04-2005, 13:26 Just to solve a query by a mate of mine, does anyone know which country holds the world water speed record now, it's a subject i've never heard mentioned since Donald Campbells crash. Don_Kiddick 14-04-2005, 13:27 wasn't it a Sri Lankan on a Li Lo? :D viking 14-04-2005, 13:35 I know Evil Knievel holds the land speed record.. . . . . . . . . Riding across Ethiopia with a pork pie on his head. little malc 14-04-2005, 13:35 Bloody hell! he must have pulled the plug out sharpish!! little malc 14-04-2005, 13:47 Yup! slow on the uptake there Don, would still like to know tho' if this record is held by Britain, don't supose so tho' as we don't seem to have much of any record left. adlinds 14-04-2005, 14:23 I just found this site and it says the current record is held by An Australian called Ken Warby which was on August 8th 1978 doing 317.6mph compared to Campbells 276.3mph. http://www.lesliefield.com/races/world_water_speed_record.htm I do seem to remember someone breaking it more recently though within the last year but I could be wrong, I usually am. Knoxville 14-04-2005, 14:29 The record for a jet powered boat is 317.6 mph - still held by Australian Ken Warby - as already stated. The record for a propeller driven boat is 205 mph, set by an American about 5 years ago...Russ somebody I think. Quicksilver are attempting to bring the record back to this country with the boat that is being built now. I think their attempt is still a couple of years off though little malc 15-04-2005, 11:09 Thanks for that info Knoxville, all power to Quicksilver whoever they are, I would love to see some record held by our country again. I read recently that Sheffield Uni had put a lot of design work into an electric car to attempt an electric car speed record, don't know much more about this though. scottf 15-04-2005, 11:10 I believe that a mate of mine hold the world record for the fastest ever remote controlled car. |
