Most people say that speed cameras are just for making money, so would you rather see the fine scraped and just have 3 points on you licence? Or do you think that points should depend on how fast you was going so if you were only going 10mph faster your would get 1 point and 20mph 2 points , etc

Judging by how much money they make if they changed to points half the drivers would be banned from driving in a year, which would reduce the amount of traffic and make the roads safer.

It might work.

Well I think speeding carries a penalty of 3 to 6 points depending on circumstances.

I would be happy to pay a fine only.

Points can really screw your license :suspect:

I think most people are actually far more worried about points.

12 points (4 times caught doing 34 mph) and you loose your license. For many people this could make life extremely difficult and may well cause them to loose there job as well.

Apparently the conservatives are waving the pounds not points flag in front of potential voters this time round. They want to abolish the points system and make us pay instead. They say it is unfair on motorists to impose points on top of what is in 99% of the cases nothing more than a revenue generating excercise. But then they would say that.

i would definately be happyier to just pay a fine, as some of u may know, my fella has recently got points on his licence through no fault of his own, his hgv lorry was calibrated and so was going faster than he thought. the points may compromise any further jobs he has.

To scrap the points is just playing into the hands of the spoiled brats with more money than sense, they would happily pay up all day long and keep speeding and laughing at the fines.

The points system keeps those idiots from flouting the law, just as the intruduction of the wheel clamp stopped them parking where ever they fancied, and just paying the fine out of their petty cash.

yep, because everyone who ever did 34mph in a 30 zone 4 times should loose there license damn it. It's the only fair way.

All the more reason to stay within the speed limit then.
