View Full Version : Podcasting - any recommended feeds?
Having discovered you don't need an ipod to indulge in podcasting but merely an MP3 player, I was wondering if anyone has come across any feeds they would recommend?
I've come across a couple on the beeb site but they seem to only just be experimenting with it at the moment so there's not a great deal of choice.
One I'd recommend is Radio 5's fighting talk. It's a 1 hour comedy show with a sporting theme.
You can find out about it here :
http://www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive/programmes/fightingtalk_podcast.shtml
This page also includes info regarding what podcasting is and what it involves, where to get the software etc.
So, if you come across any podcasts you'd like to share please use this thread to post your recommendations.
cheers

Check out http://www.podcast.net for feeds and http://www.podcastalley.com for more feeds.
I like Insomnia Radio (http://hardcoreinsomniaradio.blogspot.com/), Radio Clash (http://www.mutantpop.net/radioclash/), and the Distorted View (http://www.distortedview.com/show/) show makes me giggle to myself each morning whilst walking along.
Keep meaning to find out what Podcasting is all about. Am I right in thinking it is designed to automatically download stuff usually in mp3 format, such as radio programmes etc?

Hooray!
Oh god, I know I'm behind the times a bit with technology, but you can't possibly tell me that these new-fangled iPod thingys need feeding?

Nope - you don't need a ipod to get into podcasting. As long as you have something capable of playing MP3s (eg windows media player) on your computer you can utilise podcasting technology.

ummm Nomme.... JBee was just joking.
I bought an ipod nano last week from Selfridges.
Within 7 days I have managed to turn what is possibly the coolest player on the market (today), into very unfashionable item indeed!
I have downloaded all the Radio 4 Podcasts available and a rather laborious "learn before you land" Spanish course for beginners.
hoh hum...

you can download recorded live feeds to your mp3 player. Ie Fighting talk is on now and you can download a recorded version of the program in a few hrs.

MC Spyda 01-07-2011, 01:47 Nearly 6 years on. What podcasts are people listening to now?
Any recommendations? I would particularly be interested in any science/tech/cosmos type feeds.
A few general recommendations:
Skeptics' Guide to the Universe (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/skeptics-guide-to-universe/id128859062). Usually more science and bad science than debunking ghosts. Some interesting interviews too (Jon Ronson, Ben Goldacre, James Randi and such like).
Wormwood (http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/wormwood-a-serialized-mystery/id261086208). It's finished now, after three series, but this was a fab supernatural-themed mystery serial about a Holmes-like, gloriously sarcastic psychologist called Dr Xander Crowe, and a town called Wormwood.
The Horror (http://relicradio.com/otr/show/horror/) - Tales from spooky old-time radio, often featuring Vincent Price, Boris Karloff and such like.
Electric Sheep (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/electric-sheep/id321277433) - Smart and witty knitting podcast.
Anything by Scott Johnson is entertaining.
