Personally, I don't want to lie in bed listening to 'toilet noises' :gag:

And why, in these modern estates, do you find a four bedroom house has 1 bathroom and 1 en-suite?
Wouldn't 2 bathrooms/shower rooms that all occupants can use without traipsing through somebody's bedroom be more appropriate?

In the seventies it was compulsory to have a 'through lounge' and dividing walls in '30's houses were holed in the name of modernisation. We are now busy bricking them back up so we can have a family room and an adult sitting room.

Is the en-suite going to be a dead fashion in the near future?
Can anybody think of any more examples? (louvre doors and windows, for instance :gag: )

I have an en-suite in my house and I love it.

Especially as it's pink and has a space for all my toiletries etc.

I have 3 bathrooms altogether. One downstairs which guests use. A main bathroom upstairs which has a bath/shower etc and my en-suite bathroom which doesn't have a bath but does have a shower.

My boyfriend always uses the main bathroom if I've not long had a shower in my en-suite because he says just by walking in there he will smell female with all the body sprays and perfumes I use lol.

I think having an en suite means you have a private bathroom to yourself that guests can't use which also means better hygiene really and I don't have the problem of men leaving the toilet seat up! :D

We don't have an en-suite in this house but did in our old house!!

I don't miss it at all...!!

We still have the more important 2nd toilet downstairs so that obviously helps...as I wouldn't like to be disturbed during my bath by someone wanting to 'offload the days takings' !!!

I've just bought, and will be moving into very shortly, a house that has an en-suite with the master bedroom, a seperate bathroom and a downstairs loo...

Very much looking forwards to not having to wait an hour for the missus to finish before I can have my morning shower! I am worried about how to decided which loo to use though...:o

Sparklesista:

I would love to have an en-suite (currently in the process on building one).

As there are three of us me my partner and his 15yr old daughter its a nightmare at 6/7am in the morning, waiting for the loo to flush or listening for the shower to be switched off, patiently waiting for bellow of ' ITS FREE NOW'.....

Not good! also the fact that people have different hygiene rules I like a very tidy and clean (dry) bathroom and my partner likes to leave all his spray cans etc on the side, his daughter leaves all her bits and pieces everywhere!!! all I do is tidy up and clean up after everyone. So Iam with you on this one. A bathroom each would be good but I'll settle for an ensuite.

mmmmm a nice relaxing bathroom with calm aromas, fresh towels, warm floor and candles gently illuminating the water.

But.....

Why en-suite?

Why does the thing have to be in your bedroom?

Doesn't it just make more sense for it to be on the landing?

What puts me off en-suites is the thought of laying in bed while someone takes a dump not 10 feet away from you.

I had an en-suite at uni (in Bramall Court) and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. It's my own personal bathroom and all the germs in there are my own. There's also the advantage of not getting lost when pottering about in the night trying to find the loo, especially if you've had a few...

En-suites are normally closed off. It's like a seperate room inside your bedroom.

Not if you don't share your bedroom with anyone.

Well there are cases when they make sense. Hotels for instance. Or multi-occupancy buildings like student residences, where every room gets it's own bathroom.
I just don't like living in a hotel room arrangement when I live in a house :(

En-Suite is a seperate room leading from usually the master bedroom which normally has a toilet, sink and shower in it.

We have one and believe me with 3 girls and a little boy its needed.

I like it because when you are getting ready you can just walk between bedroom/bathroom and get ready in your own time without having to find something to cover yourself with when walking in between the two.

When sharing with other people you don't know very well it's so nice to have your own bathroom that meets your standard of hygiene!

Edit: haven't really answered the question, so I will now... I think it's here to stay, it's not really seen as a luxury anymore, but the norm.
