8 months old and he's learning to crawl so I've made a play area on the floor with 'crash mats' and toys all over. But he still wants to go where no baby has boldly gone before. He's pulling the covers off the chairs in an attempt to climb up them, pulling the mats up to see what's underneath, climbing out of the play area to look up the chimney, finding power cables, tormenting the cat....you name it....

I'm leaping up every 30 seconds to remove him from mischief.

Is that it now? No more peace for the rest of me life? :o

Do you want the honest answer or shall I lie?

If you haven't fully child protected your house, do it now, you have at least another 2 - 3 years of this.... sorry :)

Don't worry, they say the first 40 years are the worst. :hihi:

Get a playpen ... even if he manages to get out of it, you and any pets can always sit in it and be fully protected against toddling demons ... :P

On a positive note, we have absolute hilarity in our house playing chase with the girls and they never giggle quite so much as when being chased for a tickle.
Independent movement opens up whole new dimensions of entertainment, as well as challenges for everyone :D

He had my bag tipped up half an hour ago and tried to bite me yesterday. ;)

Exactly what I do about cat litter is something I may have just a week or two to solve :o

You've got an intelligent child that likes to explore. He's not likely to stop so you need to limit his exploration. Buy lots of safety gates and a big playpen. Go to a carboot and buy lots of activity centres and fix them on the playpen so there's lots of things to do. Eventually he'll be big enough to climb over but hopefully by then he'll be old enough to understand the word No. Also nursery fire guards can be used to keep babies off other things than fires. Try the freecycle sites and you may be lucky and get the stuff free.
Take him to soft play areas that have sections for babies. Get him out and about as much as possible in the fresh air so he runs off steam. He won't grow out of it if he's like my two boys but he will become more manageable as he gets older.

Mine is exactly the same. He can entertain himself a lot more now he is mobile. Plenty of bumps and bruses as he's trying to walk and keeps falling over but thats the way of things. Kids have always fallen over, ad they do bounce to some extent. I'm all for baby proofing an house to some degree, but you have to let them explore and sometimes that can involve a little pain, as long as it isn't serious.

He's been trying to stand up today which involves climbing up me in a frenzy, and he's OK at it until he gets excited and does a bounce and then he's back down on his bum again. ;)

I put toys around his mats so he's encouraged to move towards them, plus interesting and safe household onbjects and junk for him to explore, baby spoons and bowls etc.

I'd been tsaking him for a spin in the buggy but it was nasty this afternoon sadly :( I wish I had room for a playpen and so on but there's no space! He goes in his car seat for now if I need to leave him for a minute.

He has collapsed into a nap now anyway. Phew ;)

The other night I put him in the cot and turned the light off and as I did, I noticed he was sitting up grinning at me like a maniac and throttling his bunny. This morning, I put him in the cot so I could change the bed sheets undisturbed and soon found out he now knows how to pull up to standing using the side of the cot. :o

Then he tipped my bag upside down again.

I need a straitjacket! Help!!!! :help:

:hihi: I did consider patenting a sleep suit with a velcro insert in the back so you could stick them to the bed/wall/pram/bouncer/highchair but I figured the NSPCC might not be so impressed :D
