LJB23 25-06-2008, 12:35 PM Hi Everyone!
I get married in August - Can't wait! And a month after were going away to Tenerife, the holiday is booked in my new married surname but my passport is still in my old name. Will I have to send it off to be changed? If so does anyone know the cost? My passport runs out next June anyway so maybe I should just get a new one?
Bradway182 25-06-2008, 12:55 PM Yes you will need to get it changed.
You just apply for a new passport as they don't just change names on them!!!
Very expensive if you have only just got a new one and then want to change your name!!!

Phew...... glad mine is about run out then as isn't it about £75 for a passport now! Anyway I'm in need of a new photo on it, one that does me justice I hope!!!!
Cheers!
Bradway182 25-06-2008, 01:01 PM I got caught out by it, been married 2 years and still booking holidays in my maiden name, as i had just got a new passport before the wedding.
Have a lovely wedding, Good luck!!
LJB23 25-06-2008, 01:08 PM Cheers. Not long now till the wedding - 7 weeks on Saturday!
The holiday is all booked otherwise I'd have booked it in my maiden name but seeing as my passport is just about out of date it doesn't matter.
waddy 25-06-2008, 02:23 PM I'm off to Tenerife too but at christmas. We all need new passports ours run out in Feb.Good luck with the wedding.
honeyb35 25-06-2008, 10:37 PM am i right in thinking if you book the honeymoon in your maiden name you dont have to change your passport? I've got about 3 years left on mine and dont want to pay the £75 just yet - it can wait till i can afford it (hopefully lol)
Fooman 25-06-2008, 10:52 PM It used to be the case that if your tickets were in your married name but your passport was in your maiden that as long as you took your marriage certificate there was no problems BUT this has since changed for a lot of countries so it is now advisable to either book tickets in maiden name (which I didn't like as I was going on my honeymoon) or book tickets as Mr and Mrs and get your passport changed beforehand. They "credit" your passport with up to 9 months if its not due for renewal quite yet. Wouldn't risk having tickets in one name and passport in another. Might be ok leaving the UK but you could have a problem when coming back.
honeyb35 25-06-2008, 10:55 PM but if i booked all tickets in my maiden name? I've been a Miss for 27 years, I aint that fussed about travelling as a Mrs lol
Classic Rock 26-06-2008, 01:35 AM We got married last month abroad, I booked the going and return trip in my maiden name (no point changing anything as I didn't have the documents to change the passport). You cannot go with a maiden name passport and then travel back with the married name passport. It's not possible as to get the married name passport you need a marriage certificate.
Incidentally, I can't change anything yet. The Dept of Health in Hawaii will mail me the marriage certificate in about 2 months, which means I can't change anything officially yet. Bit of a pain as I have another foreign trip booked in a few weeks which I booked as a Mrs, if the certificate does not come in time then I'll have to get the name changed on the flights.
waddy 26-06-2008, 07:58 AM I booked my holiday in my married name and as my passport has expired will get a new one in my married name.As said you can't book your hols in your maiden and passport in married and visa versa.

Yes you are right. I still travel in my maiden name several years after getting married (just seemed too much hassle to change it all!). As long as the tickets and your passport are in the same name - its fine!
