Changes to First bus services over the weekend of 24th & 25th April include the introduction of new services following requests by bus users in Sheffield and Rotherham. In addition a new service will be introduced in Doncaster serving Robin Hood Airport.
The new 91 service will run to the new Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport providing a frequent link between Doncaster town centre, Cantley, Branton, Auckley and the terminal building of the new international airport.
In Sheffield new service 20a will serve Derbyshire Lane three times an hour Monday to Friday daytime following requests by residents.
As part of the April changes two new services to Rawmarsh will be introduced. Service 106 will provide up to 3 buses per hour between Rotherham and the Monkwood area of Rawmarsh, whilst Service 107 will provide a similar frequency to Sandhill and Kilnhurst Road.
These changes form part of a review of services which include changes to some routes and timetables and the withdrawal of a small number of poorly used services particularly late at night and on Sundays.
Brandon Jones, Commercial Director of First in South Yorkshire, commented: “I am pleased to announce the introduction of 3 new services in South Yorkshire as a result of what our customers have told us. I am sure they will prove to be a great success.”
On other changes that affect services, Mr Jones added “We are not making changes for changes sake but we do need to use our drivers and buses where customers need them most. The majority of the South Yorkshire bus network is unchanged, however as a commercial operator we cannot afford to continue to run services that lose money. Withdrawing routes or journeys is always a last resort but if we continue to take no action then it could mean that other services would be affected. We constantly monitor our bus services and have looked very carefully at where changes have needed to be made. Unfortunately in some cases our services, particularly late at night, are not well used. In those cases we have had to consider whether those drivers and buses could be better deployed. We have worked with South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive to find alternative solutions wherever possible.”
Information is now available on-bus as well as on our website www.firstgroup.com. Customers can also contact the Transport Executive’s Traveline service on 01709-515151 for further details. Timetables will be available from Travel Information Centres shortly.
