View Full Version : How to mow vertical stripes on a grass lawn? JamesRich 13-04-2005, 17:39 Does anybody know how to mow veritical stripes on a grass lawn. I have a rotary lawn mower with a roller but cannot seem to get the hang of it. Ta Strix 13-04-2005, 17:42 Try horizontal ones first ;) Strix 13-04-2005, 17:50 Found something: Stripes To get stripes in your lawn, you need a mower with an attached roller. First of all, mow along the edges of opposite ends of the lawn. After that, mow in straight lines from the two mown sides. Don't push and pull the mower. Keep going in a straight line. Slightly overlap each time so you don't miss any grass. Try 'lawn stripes' in Google for more  owdlad 13-04-2005, 18:20 You need special lawn paint, it comes in two different colours and can be bought from any good Garden Centre. :| adlinds 13-04-2005, 18:32 If the garden centre happens to be out of lawn paint :hihi: and you can't afford a new mower, you can just buy a roller. You will have to mow the lawn first as normal and then go up and down with the roller. They are big and heavey but don't cost too much second hand. Strix 13-04-2005, 18:35 I knew a tree surgeon who also laid lawns. He tells a tale of a woman passing comment on the nap of the turf as it went down. His colleague told her this was how stripey lawns were made :hihi: saxon51 13-04-2005, 18:42 Originally posted by owdlad You need special lawn paint, it comes in two different colours and can be bought from any good Garden Centre. :| Or you could get two different shades of turf. JamesRich 13-04-2005, 21:08 I always thought you had to adjust the height of the blade on alternate stripes to get the "different colour" look. At the risk of sounding thick, is the lawn paint that owdlad suggested a wind-up? saxon51 13-04-2005, 21:21 owdlad?! Wind-up?! Never heard anything so unlikely in my life.:P sheffieldcpl 13-04-2005, 21:25 the roller gives the striped effect, but for better cut and effect buy a cylinder mower, powertech 332 langsett road ,hillsborough, quality professional advice Trever 13-04-2005, 23:42 I have a Flymo Hover type mower, Just cut your grass as normal, then use a rake and drag it up then down your grass to get the stripes. Jamie 13-04-2005, 23:47 Why don't you just use 'stripey grass' grass seed? owdlad 14-04-2005, 09:12 Originally posted by saxon51 owdlad?! Wind-up?! Never heard anything so unlikely in my life.:P Thank you Saxon, there have been far to many frivolous answers to this serious question, such as Jamie's idea of stripey grass seed:huh:   :| LesMcQueen 14-04-2005, 14:40 Hey. Don't laugh... http://www.bugspray.com/catalog/products/page1446.html Available only in green, it seems, and named after the Bonanza actor. |
