We should go into business together hunni, advising for budget weddings!!!! lol
x-GiGgLeS-x 25-06-2008, 09:40 AM I think if you shop sensibly and if you dont buy the very first thing you see, then you can do well and shop on a budget. Plus its your day not anyone elses so you should have it how you want for what you can afford. Good Luck anyway :)

honeyb35 25-06-2008, 10:47 AM I'm having a registry office wedding, with 2 adult bridesmaids and 4 child ones (i paid for the outfits) 2 adult ushers and 3 child ones, followed by a reception in a newly decorated function room in a city centre restaurant comprising of welcome drinks, a 2 course meal, wedding cake, magic entertainment, and a disco. I'm having a full day of wedding photography as well. So far its less than £1500. I've still got the cars and honeymoon to book though, as well as a few little bits but I'm proud of what I've achieved so far!

stressed_mum 25-06-2008, 11:35 AM You can get a descent buffet for a lot less than that!
Does your function room allow for outside caterers?
I got a fantastic deal on my photographer, Alan Woodson PM me for details!

a good peice of advice I was once given for a buffet is to say 'I have this much set aside, can you do me a buffet for that'. Not everything gets eaten if you do it ph so its far better to just get what you can for a set amount. I guess it depends on how much you trust the people doing the food though. The only time I've booked a buffet I did trust them, and they bought lots of food wholesale for a fab price and there was loads, but I guess you could always get a rip off person who'd get a few sausage rolls and sandwiches and claim thats all they could afford
waddy 25-06-2008, 11:43 AM I am having my wedding at a country pub so they are doing the wedding breakfast and evening buffet. It is in Oct so I don't want outside besides the outside is not very big.

No waddy by Outside Caterers I mean will they allow you to bring you own caterers in (ie pay soneone OTHER than the venue to provide your food!)
waddy 25-06-2008, 11:48 AM A few people have said the buffets there are great and they put on loads. Our lot eat and eat :hihi:I have been fretting about how much food there will be.I am providing my own cakes as my mom can get us massive ones at a really good price .I will have to haggle the price down.
waddy 25-06-2008, 11:49 AM No waddy by Outside Caterers I mean will they allow you to bring you own caterers in (ie pay soneone OTHER than the venue to provide your food!)No they won't. sorry dumb moment:hihi:

I'd give it a try, I'm sure they'd drop the price a fair bit as they will be earning a fair amount from you - and your guests with the bar!
I'm afraid I didnt make my friends wedding at the same place yours is - ill kids  so I don't know what its like but I heard they were happy with it!
waddy 25-06-2008, 11:56 AM I will try,I asked if I could provide my own cakes and she said yes that is fine as they don't do a huge selection . As I said the room is free so that is a saving one place we looked at was £300 just for the room hire even though they were doing all the catering.:o
stressed_mum 25-06-2008, 11:59 AM You don't really need to provide for EVERYONE either, if ppl are going to be having a meal they won't necessarily need buffet & you'll find that for the evening do, most ppl will have eaten before they arrive.
say if you've got 100 ppl coming, you will only need to cater for about 75 thets 25 ppl saved for!
x-GiGgLeS-x 25-06-2008, 12:02 PM Not only that even if you didn't have the meal you still don't need to cater for everyone because on the day, some people don't turn up for whatever reason and there is always food left so don't order for all your guest

I found that too!! And a lot of rooms werent anything special, so would have needed MORE money spending on decorations! :o:o
waddy 25-06-2008, 12:08 PM Knowing us we would say cater for 70 of the 100 and 150 would turn up:hihi:Joking apart that is good advice I will cater for about 70- 80 thanx:thumbsup:
