anyone know what to do here

I have windows 98 installed from new and had to do the critical updates so I went to download them

the Broadband then decided to mess up and I was left with 18 hrs left till downloaded and installed (It was olny 19MB)
I have a 1bit connection so I knew by far that wasnt right so I cancelled

now when ever I log onto the net
hit internet explorer

I get a connecting to 192.1.245.210 (or somthing number wise)

then failed and page canot be displayed it seems to want to connect to the internet and carry on where it left off

not looked at it yet myself as its my GF comp

Let me know what to do

Check your connection settings. In IE go to Tools, Internet Options and select the Connections tab.

Depending on how you connecdt depends on what should be in there and what buttons should be checked.

If you could give us more details on what you use to connect, (USB modem, ethernet router etc...) it would be much appreciated.

I can think of a few things it coud be:

TCP/IP
Winsock
Proxy Server(s)

If you can run some tests and let me know the results that would be grand:

Connect to the internet as you would normally
Then clikc start
Click Run
Type "command" in the box and press ok
At the C:\> prompt type "ping www.sheffieldforum.co.uk" without wuotes and press enter/return and tell me what happens
Next at the C:\> prompt again type "ping 69.20.11.80" and again press enter/return and tell me what happens.

This should rule out a few things!
