what does everyones invites look like? Cos I'm basically nosy lol. I'm debating making my own....but then keep seeing ones I really like on ebay! Trouble is, I need 20 day invites and 10 evening ones, so the costs will add up. I'm not keen on ones I see in the shops!

I bought mine from Tesco, but now wish I'd made my own. You can get lots of ideas from looking through the Confetti catalogue and wedding mags. There's an excellent wholesale mill near Leeds (I'm sure there must something similar near to Sheffield) which sells EVERTHING you would need to make your own stationery. Only problem is it's for trade and business only. (You may someone who could get a card?)

We bought some really cheap ones - about £1.50 for 10 from that card factory shop on the moor - then printed our own wording on some nice paper and stuck it inside. They did look smarter once we'd done that and providing guests haven't peeled our wording off, they might kind of look as though we had them printed! We did about 50 and it took forever!! We went through a whole tube of pritt stick!

There are some fantasic cards out there and it would have been nice to get something fancy, but we decided to prioritise the reception (i.e. food and drink) above all else -including invites.

Mine are very modern & contemporary, & they were really cheap, got them from Colley Post Office just off Barnsley Road

I have just had my evening wedding invitations designed and made by a local company and they are beautiful. They are exactly what I wanted and are extremely good quality. Everyone has commented on them. Can definately recommend Lisa at leeloudesigns.com x

I got mine from Carsons on West Street. My day ones are square with a gold ribbon down one side and the evening ones are rectangle, no ribbon, just cream with gold writing. I think I ordered about 50 for the day and 80 for the evening, came to about £300 though!!

I'm making all of mine - think I'll get a little change from £20.

Mind you dates and numbers are still a little rough around the edges, but I like to be prepared!

out of interest where do you get the stuff from? I've got an idea how I want mine to look but if I go somewhere like hobbycraft I may as well pay for them to be professionally made!

The Paper Mill Shop for card and lots of other bits. And then just sort of knowing whats a good price for stuff in Hobby Craft. Half the time most of the stuff isn't specialist craft stuff and if you keep an eye out, you'll be amazed what you find.

Or buy ready folded cards - you can also get them at the papermill shop. Not sure where the nearest one to here is, but I use one in the south.

I'm going to be making my own wedding invitations because a)I like to make my own greetings cards, and b) it will save pounds from the wedding budget so we can hire a fog machine and indoor fireworks :)

There are lots of internet suppliers for card blanks and if you don't mind you could have the same cards for your order of service and thank you cards, which will save money when buying in bulk.

Hi all, just wanted to share an idea with you...my friend recently got married and wanted a caricature style invite to make them more personal. She used a bloke from sheffield, who has a website, www.brendanwilliams.co.uk/caricatures if you go to the personalised section you can see what he has done for her and other people. he was excellent, incorporated everything she asked into the drawing. I think it cost her £50 and she got to keep the original A4 hand drawn artwork, which she then took to a printers and they put onto cards for invites.

Just an idea if anyone was stuck as i know many people have unusual ideas xxx

Mine are on Ivory deckle & hammered card with black lace trimmings to match my dress! I brought most of the bits from Stationary Box (now Rymans) and the habidashery stall in Castle Market (I was brave :))!

i made my first one yesterday! i'm really impressed, its just a plain white folded card with 'wedding invitation' in gold fancy writing (stickers) then a burgundy marabou feather in the middle, and a tiny gold padded heart at the bottom. it only took me a few minutes but looks great! got to add the inserts now though......
