Hi,
Annabel has been sick after every feed and is not herself at all. She is wretching alot too and seems to be in pain from her tummy.

She is breastfed and because she is very, very sick after each feed she is still hungry and I'm just not refilling quick enough.

The only time she has slept today is when she is in her sling, so against my chest.

I'm shattered and just not sure what to do now, Should I give her some formula to tide her over till I have enough millk for her? Should I give her some water?

What would you advise?

Get in touch with your health visitor or GP, they are best placed to give you advice about this.

Love to you both, I hope she is feeling better soon. xx

Bless little annabel, i would contact your GP for advice as you do not want her to dehydrate, i would try cool boiled water. Hope she feels better soon

your body will produce enough for your baby, shes probably got cholic (bad wind in the tummy) ... which is painful, .... try some tepid water (cooled from boiling) ..... steamy rooms also help cholic (sit in bathroom with hot water running or sit in kitchen and let kettle boil away) ........ also give the nurse a ring, they'll advice you

My little boy used to be sick alot after feeds, they said it was something to do with his reflux. It could be that. She will be getting enough you just might not think she is (which is exactly how i felt) because she is being sick alot, but she will be managing to keep some down. Contact your HV there is even a number for advice on breastfeeding in her redbook or ring NHS Direct. Hope shes better soon

Hello, took little bug to doctors, thank you Mbunting. He said she has a virus and to just give her water for the night and see how she is in the morning. If she is still being sick we are to take her back.

So fingers crossed, she is not a happy bunny rabbit x

poor little mite - if she settles in her sling then just keep her in it for as long as you can handle it.

If you can express to keep your supply up while your giving her water then do so just in case (not that I know a huge amount about bf)

My love and thoughts are with the 3 of you xxx

For a breastfed baby you should really still feed her breastmilk - all the lovely antibodies etc in it will still help (this is not the case for formula though). Most advice suggests shorter more frequent breastfeeds for a baby with a stomach bug. If you do decide not to feed her, express off your milk and freeze it in small amounts for another time.

Most advice suggests shorter more frequent breastfeeds for a baby with a stomach bug. I would definately reiterate this advice. The foremilk, which you get at the beginning of the feed is most like water, but it has all the nutrients that baby needs. Doing these little feeds helps to keep up your supply. Your body and milk supply adapt to the needs of the baby. Contact a breastfeeding counsellor for more indepth advice or information. NCT breastfeeding line is 0870 444 8708.

Hope she gets well soon, :)

Could be reflux? Does she cry before the milk actually hits her mouth??

No problem Olliekitten, I always feel justified about seeking advice from my doctor or health visitor because after all, it is their job.

I hope your little one is feeling better soon, if it is any comfort there seems to be a lot of bugs going around. Several children of friends have had throat infections and things but they have been sick with it. As I said, hope she is feeling better soon. Love to you both.
