Can anyone give me an idea on the cost of an accountant?

As with most jobs depends on what you want the accountant to do!

Hi Jane

The fees do depend on the level of work we carry out for clients.

A set of sole trader accounts with a profit and loss account a balance sheet, plus the traders tax return can be around £300 plus VAT where books are well maintained.

If your books are not as good and we have to do more of the additions and bookeeping work this can double the fee and beyond.

If you are VAT registered and your accountant prepares your VAT Return or writes up your books, this will depend on the number of transactions we have to process.

This can be anything from £50 a quarter to £500 a quarter.

If you employ people and your accountant takes care of that too, this starts from £5 per week.

As with any job, the more work you are prepared to do yourself, the less work we would have to do, and therefore the lower the fee would be.

Hello Jane,

There are a good number of Accountants to choose from in Sheffield, so don’t think you have to take the first one that comes along. Ask 2 or 3 to quote you.

You should expect your Accountant to offer the following:

- Qualified current member of one of the 4 major (England & Wales) professional accountancy bodies, see: http://www.ccab.org.uk/

- A no-obligation, free initial meeting at a time and place that’s convenient to you.

- A range of services that you can pick what you want from.

- A fixed price fee for the services you choose – no hidden extras, no surprises.

- An interest-free instalment plan so you can spread the cost over a whole year.

- Free advice on accounts and tax whenever you need it (within reason).

I offer all the above and so do others, some of whom also post on these boards. Good luck.

Hi Jane

I have a client who does book keeping and management accounts. She's been in business for over 12 years so has lots of experience. Her staff are mainly part-qualified accountants. She's a lovely woman, doesn't overcharge and does a great job.

The company's Number Crunchers and they're based in Killamarsh.

Give them a call and ask to speak to Isabella Callaghan. Tell her you got her name from Josie at Freshaire, who makes her appointments.

Her contact number is 0114 2180612.

Their web address is www.number-crunchers.co.uk

I'm sure she'll be able to help you.
