Anti Nowhere League too, used to sit downstairs at Marples in the afternoons and get slightly p**sed with my punk mates. Aaah the memories. bellis 13-04-2005, 13:39 i didnt no the anl played the marples i can remember the uk subs playing there but i was advised not t go cos loads of skinheads used to frequent the place:( melthebell 13-04-2005, 22:03 unfortunately being a youngster (36 today :P) i didnt get into punk till 1984 and a bit later till i used to go to the city centre on my own / with mates so i missed the marples :( I always remember seeing an exploited poster on the wall of the marples tho, must have been the last gig?? The Mau Maus live at the marples was a cracking album tho, ill have to try and get that again Cutglass 14-04-2005, 07:02 Well I'm 41, so was just the right age, can remember all the gigs as Roxy's too, remember seeing The Ruts there and being well impressed, I was gonna have a tatt with the Ruts on but one of them died, so it put me off a lil bit. Saw the Damned there and I was dead chuffed when Rat Scabies threw his drumsticks into the crowd and I caught one  Ahh the memories  dishwasher 15-04-2005, 13:13 I saw the Stunt Kites there when they were in their late-1970s prime. There used to be a band called Artery who always seemed to be either at the Broadfield or Rotherham Arts Centre. I thin that there is a story that when they played upstars at the Marples that one of the group - halfway through a song - climbed out of a window, shuffled along a ledge, and climbed back in another window. I've no idea if it's true but it sounds like something that they would have done. Ant 27-05-2007, 18:50 The Ramones. Can't remember the year, but it was a wonderful gig. Martin Dust 28-05-2007, 10:58 Maus Maus, Toy Dolls (last gig at the Marples), Infa Riot, Vice Squad, Peter And The Test Tube Babies, Vice Squad, Crass, Discharge, Chaos UK, The Dark, UK Chaos, Angelic Upstarts, Varukers and The Exploited are just a few of the band I saw there, all run by Marcus Featherby and Jesus working on the door... melthebell 28-05-2007, 11:47 Maus Maus, Toy Dolls (last gig at the Marples), Infa Riot, Vice Squad, Peter And The Test Tube Babies, Vice Squad, Crass, Discharge, Chaos UK, The Dark, UK Chaos, Angelic Upstarts, Varukers and The Exploited are just a few of the band I saw there, all run by Marcus Featherby and Jesus working on the door... sheff anarchist jesus? i used to know him blimey thats some fine bands list :) really really peed off ive never seen crass or mau maus :( seen discharge (crap metally period tho :( ) seen chaos uk most of the others are still going in one form or another so still could Martin Dust 28-05-2007, 11:52 sheff anarchist jesus? i used to know him blimey thats some fine bands list :) really really peed off ive never seen crass or mau maus :( seen discharge (crap metally period tho :( ) seen chaos uk most of the others are still going in one form or another so still could Jesus, yeah the same guy I believe, very one nice bloke. That's not a full list of band I saw there but during the punk period I reckon I saw 3 gigs a week between all the venues. andy1964 28-05-2007, 15:58 "Very nice bloke" Well thanks for saying that Martin, you obviously know me, sorry I don’t recognise your username. That isn’t a full list of bands, flux of pink indians, poison girls, GBH, off the top of my head. They were great gigs. We also put Nico on, from velvet underground fame. Crass was my favourite gig, in fact they were the best live band I ever saw and saw them all around the country. The only trouble I remember inside the Marples, was Chris Long (RIP i believe) going in the womens toilets. Mark Goldthorpe, Artery singer, did go out onto the window sill, it wasn’t what you would call a balcony. I was in touch with Marcus until recently (& saw him July 2006), unfortunately I have been unable to contact him by phone or email and fear the worst. melthebell 28-05-2007, 16:19 "Very nice bloke" Well thanks for saying that Martin, you obviously know me, sorry I don’t recognise your username. here you go, martin dust post from a while ago :P http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showpost.php?p=2062682&postcount=484 phew took mi ages to refind that, page 25 of my punk and metal bands thread :P chris long was a long time staple of the peace gardens i believe? yeah id heard he'd died, shame, although im not surprised with the amount of booze and alcohol he used to consume, when i was around there never mind since i left sheff Martin Dust 28-05-2007, 16:25 "Very nice bloke" Well thanks for saying that Martin, you obviously know me, sorry I don’t recognise your username.
