View Full Version : What's your favourite fast food place?
tom_a_west 13-04-2005, 01:31 I am wondering just what is everyone's favourite fast food "restaurant" purely based on the food quality?
I have to say personally, that Subway cant be beaten. although I dont think that there are enough in Sheffield, the same can be said about Burger King, which I regard as a close second.
Not in Sheffield, I'm afraid. But this place:
http://www.in-n-out.com/ Can't be beat for good, fresh, inexpensive, fast food. Any Sheffielders making a trip to California, stop and eat here. They also have restaurants in Nevada and Arizona. You won't be sorry!

Oh dear sweet lord....in-n-out is fantastic. I have to be honest, burgers in the UK suck. I remember enjoying the burgers at the place on Cambridge street..can't remember its name..opposite what used to be Pippys (THAT was a long time ago). But - burgers in the 'States just taste a lot better (hence all the fatties!!)
I refuse to eat at Burger King and McDonald's, but I'm a sucker for in-n-out. If you're ever in California - you have to find one. You'll be surprised at the tiny menu...pretty much Burger, Cheeseburger and fries...but everything is made fresh, the meat is never frozen, the fries are actually chipped right in front of you...and then there's the secret menu!! Ask for your burger 'animal style' and your fries well-done. You won't regret it. :)

The 4x4 burger on the secret menu looks like a heart attack waiting to happen IMO! Even I thought it sounded nice though, and I'm a vegetarian! :D

You can actually order any combination of cheese and patties. So - a 8x8 would be 8 slices of cheese and 8 patties (burgers). A 3x6 would be 3 patties and 6 slices of cheese.
I've seen kids go in there as a challenge and try to out-do each other with ludicrously big combos. I think the record is something like a 16x16. I'm not sure if that particular person died soon after completing his task.
in-n-out is great as fast food...but my favorite burger comes from a place called Cheesecake Factory. They do some fantastic grub. Unsurprisingly, their cheesecakes are mindblowing too.
However...I have to say, the best curries in the world are still back home in England. And of course, curry is king.
Cutglass 13-04-2005, 07:10 I never knew there was any Sub-ways in Sheff, lived there all my life and only discovered the Sub-way Italian BMT when I moved to Preston.....mmm lots of sweet onion relish and I'm way happy :D

Yeah, theres one on Devonshire St, Orchard Square and Ecclesall Rd : )
I love Jannath's - on the junction of West and Division street - mmm samosa and chips with chilli sauce, was only £1.50 but I've think Khan has just put his prices up a little.. still a delicious bargain though
Ousetunes 13-04-2005, 08:39 I love nothing better than KFC chicken dipped in their own beans. Trouble is, I always feel really bloated afterwards and I'm sure their food is getting greasier.
I apologise for the next comment, but KFC is the only food which smells exactly the same as when first purchased when it is, er, 'dumped'. There's even an aroma of the little lemon wet-wipe. Anyone agree?

I've been to one in Phoenix and it was fantastic, but then Subway is good in America too, it's only here where it's shoddy.
I like the giant sarnies they sell in Safeway in the US too, one has 6 types of meat and 3 types of cheese in it.
KFC and Burger King are very different in the US (the BK salads are huge), Mc Donalds is universally vile though.
x_LoUiSe_x 13-04-2005, 10:32 KENTUCKLES :D

Murdocs double garlic margharita pizza, with extra garlic is fantastic, but the next day your breath could cut sheet steel.
Charlie01 13-04-2005, 12:13 i personally prefer a chicken shish kebab from kebab world in broomhill... absoluately pukka!
Being a bit of a sushi-aholic I was in cloud nine when I was in Australia because of all the fast food sushi places along the pavements. On one memorable day I had sushi for breakfast lunch and dinner and it ended up costing me less than a fiver.
Wonderful place.
MuteWitness 13-04-2005, 12:17 the bagel shop on eccy road next to kfc, the food there is so nice! everything is baked fresh
Imrans in the Wicker - his specials are a must after a night out and the fish masala is also gorgeous
Liz
KFC!!!
In the US they have different flavours.....original recipe which is the same as in he UK but they also have spicy which is gorgeous
Internetowl 13-04-2005, 14:24 I went in Subway today in Orchard Sq - what a pleasant experience....I could spend a fortune in there....very nice range of toppings.. and not that expensive...
But my fav fastfood used to be Pepe's at Firth Park but its gone down hill recently...
craigmason 13-04-2005, 15:26 either the pizza hut (best veggie pizza's around) or my local chinese :D
djsparky 13-04-2005, 15:46 Well I don't know if it counts, But the Number One Oriental Buffet is AWESOME!

I wish it was the same here! Absolutely love YO! Sushi, but it is so darned expensive. There isn't one in Sheffield anyway so that's that. The sushi in Marksies and Waitros is a bit steep too, but it's the best, healthiest fast food going.
Oh and by the way Whopper beats Big Mac every time!
SUSHI : There isn't one in Sheffield anyway so that's that...
I've never been, there's a restrauant calling itself a Sushi / Japanese place on London Rd, a hundred yards up from the Cremorne on the same side of the road. What Sheffield is really missing is a KOREAN restrauant. A Polish one is opening soon. Amazing that there can be a Polish one and not a Korean one, one of Asia's finest cuisines.
Have to agree with the comments about Australian restrauants being good. The Melbourne food scene is one of the best, and the best value I've ever seen. One of the best things about Australia.
Most Asian food can be classed as 'fast.' It only takes a couple of minutes to serve up some noodles either dry or in soup at somewhere like the China Cafe, slightly longer at the Vietnamese Noodle Bars on the same street. I think that because its more expensive, they keep you waiting longer on the basis that customers think good food should take longer to prepare. With most noodles this simply isn't the case. Cooking time for Pad Thai is about 90 seconds.

It's called Wasabisabi. I've been a bunch of times and it is really nice, just rather expensive.
They have Asahi beer, though, and for that I'll pay top dollar.
Talking Asian beers, I noticed Thai Singha Beer is now available, together with Singapore Tiger Beer, which is what was usually served at Thai restrauants in Britain in the past, at Waitrose. I haven't tried it but presumably it's different from the brew available there, as their practice of putting formaldeyde in it obviously wouldn't get past our law.
Budweiser own Kirin, which seems a bit odd.
Last time I was in Tokyo I bought a lovely bottle of water from a vending machine. It had beautiful Japanese script on it and in one corner:
'Coca-Cola Company'; which kind of ruined the moment for me.

Wasabisabi is good, but it is expensive, the deep fried whole softshelled crabs in tempura is divine, but they are £8 each.
The sushi is great too.
Nick2, if you like soft-shell crab they do it at the Vietnamese Noodle Bar on London Road, a different style, but still very good and not too expensive.

Great, I'll have a look.
chocotiger 15-04-2005, 21:02 Subway is my favourite place to grab a sandwich.
Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki is to die for.
Wish they would hurry up and open in Meadowhall.
Does the pizza counter at Asda Handsworth count?
