View Full Version : Aaaarggghhhh! My car alarm keeps going off!

Can anybody suggest why, and what can I do about it?

It's a Zafira. I assumed it had an insect in it, so tried setting the alarm with the 'dog buttons' (motion sensor disable) and either I failed to prod the buttons simultaneously, or it's knackered :(

:help: :help:

I want to go to bed :(

Is there an option for deactivating the alarm temporarily Strix? Maybe try locking it tonight with the key rather than the 'zapper'; that worked on my ex's car!

Locking it with the key sets the alarm too, and doesn't allow the motion sensor to be by passed.

It also closes the windows and sunroof.....

Back in a tick!

Nope :shakes: nothing closed :(

Do you have a lockable garage Strix? If so you could risk putting the car in there unlocked? Might invalidate your insurance if anything were to happen though.

Other than that, perhaps try your breakdown service, or insurance company helpline. They might be able to help!

Ah ha. The AA.

Thanks K

Glad to help out! Does this mean you'll be around even later tonight than normal whilst waiting for them? ;)

Strix

Like there's a 'later than normal' in my book

Yes, it looks like it :(

But at least when I get to bed I should be able to sleep!

No joy

It needs to go to the dealsership :(

Well.

I know pushing the key button sets the alarm.
I know locking the doors with the key sets the alarm. :(
If you open the driver's door you can't push the door button down

but I realised if you climb in the passenger side, you can lock the doors with the driver's side central locking button and climb out, shutting the passenger door behind you

:D :D I can go to bed now :D :D

Don't anybody steal my car whilst I'm there :suspect: It'll drive you nuts

I see you've had an eventful evening Strix! Any joy with the dealers?

Not yet, (waiting for a fax from Malta. Don't ask) but apparently there's a new dealership in Rotherham to try.

Anybody heard of Walker and Cutler (or something) on wortley rd near thorpe hesley? I can't find them on the net and they're probably too new for the phone book

My sister had this problem and it turned out that the seat-belt hadn't fully 'recoiled'. She'd lock the car, set the alarm and go away, the seat-belt would move a bit over time and off would go the alarm.

Sadly it's more complex than that WB :(
I assumed it was motion that was setting it off (bugs or something) but killing the motion sensor didn't do the trick.

There's an LED on the dash that tells you the alarm is set. It's flashing much more rapidly, which signifies a fault. Loads of TVs do it too :(

You mean you've got a load of light fingered transvestites trying to crowbar the doors round your way?

I'd be somewhat worried either way to be honest.

No wonder the AA man passed it on to someone else. (It was an actual man was it from the AA)?

It was an actual man subcontracted by the AA from Green Flag, who the AA got out of bed to come and see me, when I'd only asked for some advice from the AA. :(

Given that the manual in his cab said he couldn't do anything, if he'd been given all the info I gave the callcentre, we wouldn't have had to go out in the cold, and have my dog bark all the neighbours awake at 4.30am

Boy, I must be popular round these parts :suspect:

My ASBO is in the post

Maybe you could just shove it in the bin and carry on regardless, isn't that you're meant to do with them?

I've had the same things with the AA and RAC in the past, I tell them the vehicle's totally knackered, in a more descriptive manner though. They send a patrolman, and he says it's knackered and goes somewhere else.

Gets a bit tedious when you wait an hour for him to turn up and the recovery wagon comes five minutes after he leaves. Could have done all that an hour previously.

Anyway, think we're getting into rant territory!

 Callcentres  economising! dedicated service?? the pap TV generation  wet behind the ears

Rant over :D

Never had a problem with the actual patrols.
And I've seen more of them than I should have
