I don't like to be a stick in the mud, but if you're asking people who have access to equifax for work purposes to look something up for you and pass on the information, they would not only risk losing their job they'd be breaking the law (data protection act etc. Not to mention highly unethical.

I can sympathise with your situation but unfortunately the law is there for a reason.

Sorry I didnt know I was breaking the law, I am just on the final stage of finding my husbands lost family, got the address I think is right from a Death Certificate but as its 16 years old I wanted to confirm B4 I wrote :-(

Why don't you write, but put your own address on the back, so if they are no-longer there it can be returned to you ;)

Sorry my earlier post sounded a bit mean and I didn't mean it to.

It seems that there is one rule for those who have money and one for everyone else. You can get hold of the information if you're willing to pay for private detectives, or internet companies but if you have a friend who could check it for free they aren't supposed to. It wouldn't be you breaking the law it would be whoever took the information out of the workplace.

I've also been trying to trace an entire side of my family so I know how frustrating it can be to get so far but then to hit a bit of a rut. Good luck!

Twiglet,

I'm not sure where you are coming from.
The electoral rolls are public information and you can walk into any Register Office and look at the local file.

Some companies have taken the data from the rolls (quite legally) and compiled national databases from which they sell information to the public.
Your council sells limited data to them! (you can ask for your data to be excluded from databases-for-sale)

This is a very convenient service when you want access to an electoral roll for somewhere other than your home town.

You can even buy CD's containing the data for your home use.

Nothing illegal in this at all.

:)

If it's £125 for an address you already have, How much is it for an address you dont have?, must be thousands . :loopy:

I may have got my wires crossed. I was referring to a database that I used to have access to which contained the names and addresses of everyone in the country which was used to verify addresses people gave on investment application forms, for money laundering checks. I think at the time (it was a few years ago) the electoral roll wasn't available to the public.
