we are putting a new ceiling in the kitchen and are having 8 mains voltage flush fitting downlights in, (main lamps not halogen so no need for those starter boxes) at present we just have one strip light in the centre of the ceiling, in order to use the same switch so all come on at once how do i wire the new lights up? do i just come from the wire that goes to the strip light at present and take that to the first downlight then out of that to the next one etc etc or is there some other way that i should be doing it. I am confused with this ring main stuff. There is only one lightswitch in the room

cheers in advance

make sure they are fire rated and have caps fitted .. if not fit caps..

boring stuff:

remember working in a kitchen/bathrooms is notifiable work to building control so minor works certification is needed to comply. If you do the work yourself you have to apply to building control before the work takes place and request an engineer to come out and inspect the work also an engineer to test your work.

you can do the work if deemed competent.but a test is req by law.

also remember the new 17th edition applies as from this month, If you do infact add a new circuit for the lighting RCD protection is req for the new circuit to comply.

any new work that is not certified invalidates your home insurance.

sorry people just dont understand the implication now or electrics.
it is much the same as gas ie: corgi. would you fit a gas fire yourself.
