A friend and myself are looking to start taking french classes in the next couple of months. We're not wanting anything too formal or expensive - something weekly with a relaxed and sociable atmosphere.

There are always the courses at the universities of course but they're a bit pricey and might be a bit formal.

Anyway got any recommendations for a weekly night time course?

Thanks in advance!

A school in broomhill does cheap modern language night school classes. I think its king edwards, you dont take exams, and get no formal qualification. They do beginner and conversational i think.
Havent got phone no. for it, but i think i rang the school secretary who gave me the woman who runs the night schools number.

Begginners language courses go from really basic and easy going.
You can do french ocn 1 or 2. There is no exam. It's just 2 hours on one night a week, including a break for coffee. Most of the people there are well past school age. And it doesn't matter if you miss a few weeks. And the whole thing is good fun.

These are at all colleges. You can enrol in about August. and it will cost around £90 for the year.

Hi cptwhite- I'm a 4th year French student at a Scottish university and I'm staying in Sheffield until September. If you're interested in lessons and have no luck finding a course then feel free to get in touch.

Know exactly what you mean! I did French and German A levels and would love to get back into them (that was five years ago) but the idea of a formal course just doesn't appeal.
Has anyone actually been to the classes at King Edwards?

Thanks for letting us know about that. I was just thinking of something more informal, doesn't seem to be much interest in the Forum though...
