It does not look like the device you have has any form of optical input. You have only the capability for stereo input through the two aux jacks, which would not give you proper digital surround.

You could try a Optical (TOS link) to coaxial converter. I have seen them before, but I cant remember where...

I'm 100% certain that they do exist though...

Yep, although it has HDMI, component, scart and composite outputs, it only has a standard stereo input. And the only surround you'll get from a stereo input is the old Dolby Pro-Logic, which sadly isn't proper 5.1 (and that's only if the 360 supports it anyway)

They do, but they convert from digital optical to digital coaxial, and his thing has neither input.

your screwed. if they lied and said it had optical in then do a paypal claim for selling goods signicantly different to how they were advertised.

i hadnt paid for the item as i was going to pick up from crampton and moor which is down the road from me, i rung them explained the situation to them, they told me after 7 days they will put a non payer forward to ebay but mutually agreed so they could get there fee back, i was just enquiring about the system to see if i could get 5.1 out of it as i liked the system and would have paid for it. anyone know any good ones under £200 with divx, optical in, hdmi, 1080p upscale. im sick of searching, lol :hihi:

I'd not be happy with having a non-payer flag on my account when it's they misadvertised the product.

looks to me like an avi playing dvd player.

Its not a DVD player - just an amp & speakers, not sure why the specs on empire direct make it sound like a dvd player as it isnt (unless I'm confusing it with something else).
Really good system though - I tried this one out for a while as it was one of the first to pass through full HD, and it has more connection options than....well...something that connects to a lot of things.

if its just an amp then it is misleading! it says it supports mpeg4 jpeg etc..

its still worth buying then picking up a divx playing dvd player for £25 from argos.

you can stick a usb stick in, and it will play avi's, view pics etc.
