Aint had an argument on here for a while so lets get one going
Was a thread on here a while ago about Rangers in Uefa Cup v Zenit St Petersburg and certain people (not mentioning names)....... Sod it:hihi:
Basilthingy,Nekro and obviously Heyesey had a pop because i was lording it up about how good the standard of Russian football is

Now without wanting to Brag..........and i am sooooooooo gonna if Russia win the Euros, how the hell can anyone not be impressed with the standard of not only the Russian national team OR the standard of the Russian League
Some people on the origional thread considered the Russian League to be minor
Bar 1 player who plays in the German league for Nuremburg the rest of the Squad who just knocked out Holland play in Russia

Still considered minor???

I think that the Russian Team has taken a lot of confidence from Zenit's UEFA success along with the experience of such a talented coach "Sir Gus"
I hope that they get to the final and show the Germans that you can't win games on discipline alone, you need that bit of flair and commitment. Up to now Ballack is the only German player, for me, who has both. As for "Lame-man" he could be a major factor in Germanys downfall.

Is this the Russian league that has a grand total of TWO European trophies, as compared to England with twenty-odd, Italy with twenty-odd, Spain with twenty-odd, and even Scotland can muster at least three?

Yes. Very minor indeed. Get back to us when they've won enough UEFA trophies to be considered as anything else; and stop confusing the international sides' performances with the league clubs' performances. We spent three pages trying to explain the difference to you on that old thread, and apparently you still don't get it.

To be fair the team Russia fielded has only one player in it who plays outside of Russia and the only Trophy England won this season was CL but that was inevitable with having 2 Prem teams in it, (full of foriegners I might add)
The difference with England and Russia is that Russia have improved.

Thats true, who would have thought they would beat Holland, not only beat them, but easily, they were allover them, and 3-1 should been alot more, Ashavin was excellent.

At least they got the Euro08, England didn`t.

And Russian Football will continue to improve with the millions being thrown at it
Whether a Russian team has won 2 European trophies or 22 is neither here nor there.
They way the football is improving and will continue to improve will only benefit the National team due to the standard of the Russian League

Something that certain people on here fail to be able to understand

It won't necessarily improve with the "millions being thrown at it", it will just attract foreign players just as the Premier League has. It's hardly benefited our national team - we're still crap.

The money being thrown around Russian football right now is what is keeping the home grown players in Russian football which is why Russian football is on the up
And can you seriously see the likes of Ronaldo,Rooney,Lampard,Ronaldinho,Messi,Gerrard ect ect going to play their football in Russia???

I still consider the league to be minor, yes. That doesn't mean it will always be minor. There's no doubt that Russian football is on the up, at club and international level.

Well if we're going to define "major league" as "a league that I've decided is a major league" and not by any actual achievements, then I can make just as good a case for Mongolia as you've made for Russia.

The people who are sticking to the real world, though, know you're talking rubbish.

You're right, at the moment I think that there are a lot of Brazilians playing in the Russian league.

I am a big fan of this Russian team at this tournament, they even have the best national anthem. Lets not go overboard about them, remember it was inept management from McClaren that put them in Euro 2008. They were 30 minuets away from loosing to England and not qualifying, they also lost 3-0 to England in the qualifying.

They are playing extremely well in this tournament, and seem to have hit their groove. It remains to be seen if they manage to keep up their improvements, or if they will be another Greece or Denmark.

One advantage this Russian team has, is that their domestic league only started again in March, and most of their players are fresher than those from the western nations..

OK, I know Zenit's UEFA cup run started earlier than March, and they struggled through their first tie in February against Villareal, because the weren't fully sharp at that stage, but they scraped through.

If reaching the semi final of a knockout competition is your only criteria, Barnsley and Cardiff City must be among the 4 top club sides in the English leagues!

:loopy:
The point i am making is that the success of the Russian national team is due to the quality of the Russian League at the moment

The success of Barnsley reaching the semis and cardiff reaching the final of F.A cup had nothing to do with any league system

How many of Barnsley's or Cardiff's players were actually born in their respective cities?

Not sure whether it's the quality of the Russian league or the fact they've got a good manager in Hiddink and some very good young players who don't have over inflated ego's.

I think this article from the Times has a lot of truth in it.
