I am currently doing some work on anti-social behaviour in Sheffield and whether Sheffielders think it is a problem. Have you experienced any incidents of anti-social behaviour and want to talk about them? What do you think of ASBOs? Are they effective? All opinions are welcome!

Yes, but I don't think it's particularly endemic to Sheffield.

I currently live in Brighton and have had just as many problems with what the government would term ASBO worthy incidents as I had in Sheffield.

And Brighton is supposed to be all free love and hippy!

Sometimes they take wheelie bins to give them a lift up to reach, as we used to call them, fan lights. Was anyone broken into locally when it was taken?

Just had a situation about 30 mins ago. Some plonker kicking my car in the blind spot as I'm reversing cos he's decided to walk behind me.
Huge argument ensues in car park with him calling me all names under the sun.
No cameras. Basically the guy was threatening me and promised me that if I hadn't already taken his registration number he would have put all my windows through.
No point in complaining to anyone, no actual harm done, just a load of abuse.
What is the world coming to?
In an ideal world, I'd call someone, give them the details and he would be advised on his behaviour.
It's a small issue but it's the kind of thing that makes people like him think it's ok to carry on.

they are pointless as when they are broken they get no punishment. Pointless.

ASBO's seem to be a nice easy way not to deal with people who break the law repeatedly, but their crimes are considered minor, and so are they.

I currently live in Crookes, my hous mate works in the petrol station next door and they have a list and pictures of some youths with ASBOs who are also banned from the garage, but the same kids always hang around there abusing the staff and the customers. They also have recently been using our garden as a walkthrough, and when confronted ran round the corner and threw stones at windows.

The police are often called to the garage as upto 20 of them go in the shop to steal every night pretty much.

I wonder what can be done, an ASBO is just like a warning, but these kids are from 12-17 and the police can't do much but get rid of them for a couple of hours. In my opinion its a combination of many things which lead to them acting in anti social ways.

Firstly they do not think what they are doing is wrong, they only stop if they think the police will come causing them hassle, or if they get threatened. God knows why they don't see what is right and wrong, it isn't drugs it is either parenting, or something much larger in society the example seems to be that breaking the law isn't a probelm, as is promoted by footballers musicians etc. Secondly they are bored, and as i have found they will riss off if you just ignore them, but you can't ignore everything they do, but are they bored because there is nothign to do , or because they see it is a too much effort to do anything constructive.

Anyway iv had my rant, i think punishments should be harder, they should be a deterrent not a slap on the rist, and society should stop promoting the acceptance of such behaviour as a good thinkg, the idea of having street cred has become an idea taken up by too many not just the odd bad kid, but a lot of them think they have a reason a chip on the shoulder to do what they want to amuse themselves, and until the punishment isn't worth committing the crime they won't stop.
