Maybe I am the only person who doesn't know the answer to this but why is Skegness sometimes refered to as Skegvegas.
I have been there several times and can't see much resembelence to Las Vegas - or is that the idea? Is it meant to be ironic?
I would have thought that Blackpool is the nearest thing in England to Vegas if anywhere was - even then it is not that similar.
I didn't know Skegness was known as that! I know Bridlington is know as 'Cocoon' :D
yes its because it is not at all glamorous and sparkling and rich.
yes i think the word is irony
ive heard skeggy refered to as that but never really gave it a thought as to why, but ive never heard brid called cocoon? why is that then

Because it is full of the more mature members of our society. Apparently it is the place to go when you retire!!! Hence Cocoon - after the film.

The same reason that Pontefract and Castleford are known as Ponte Carlo and Cas Vegas.
Deep, deep irony. ;)
