And this is it.

http://www.mediafire.com/?zl59ny0mxo4

It's my first effort at using a computer programme to do this, so there are a few rough edges. There's all sorts of music in there. Mostly ambient/shoegaze/drone sort of stuff. And some jazzy drum n bass. And some Death Cab for Cutie. I was just trying to get away from the usual a bit.

I await feedback wearing a hard helmet. Be cruel if you must.

Having said that, no one will probably download it or listen to it. What does it matter? A few other people I gave it to enjoyed it.

Here's the tracklisting.

1. Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space
2. Ride - Vapour Trail
3. Asobi Seksu - Lions and Tigers
4. My Bloody Valentine - Thorn
5. Death Cab For Cutie - No Sunlight
6. Portishead - Wandering Star
7. Wolves in the Throneroom - Dia Artio
8. Sunn0))) - It Took The Night to Believe
9. Autechre - Eutow
10. Crystal Castles - Tell Me What to Swallow
11. Black Mountain - Wucan
12. Murcof - Cometa
13. Sigur Ros - Hljomalind
14. KLF - Elvis on the Radio, Guitar in my Soul
15. Amon Tobin - Stoney Street
16. Ladytron - International Dateline
17. Mercury Rev - Holes
18. Jesu - Mother Earth
19. 65 Days of Static - Install a beak

I downloaded it and enjoyed it.

Except for track8 which is completely devoid of any merit. But otherwise, very nicely done.

Cheers for the feedback everyone. Yeah, I listened to it again and it does need ironing out a little. I'd agree that track 8, the Sunn0))) track, doesn't really fit too well. A bit unsettling in the middle of the rest of it.

I'll have another go soon and post that one too.

The good news is that if you just delete it, 7 into 9 seems to work OK to my untrained ear. Heresy I here you cry!
The other thing was that some of the tracks seemed to get noticably louder just before they faded into the next one. Is that a software issue?

Yeah it is. It's actually a really good feature but I misunderstood how it worked and absolutely buggered it up. I didn't mean to alter the levels at all.

But after further messing about, I know what I did wrong.

I could just delete track 8, but I will probably try and find something else to go in there. The tranistion into the Ladytron tune is too jumpy as well. That's the other thing I'll sort out.

Out of interest which proggy did you use? Doing a similar thing DJ wise in a few months and basically want to mix the songs onto a CD so I don't have to DJ :)

I used something called Mixmeister Fusion. It seems quite restrictive at first but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty good. For the simple sorts of mixing I was doing it was anyway. I'm playing around with a few dance tunes at the moment just to get a hang of it.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on mixing skills, but am listening to it now and enjoying it.

Good. I'm going to take it round a few pubs to see if they'd be interested in me doing a set once in a while of similar stuff. The song selection is more important than the mixing but I want it to sound good. I find mixing easier live, but I don't have the equipment to do it at home yet.

I used to know someone who part owned a small restaurant/club (albeit in a small town), and he told me that when they first opened they played a lot of chilled out stuff, as they wanted the place to have a classy vibe. However one night they put on some 70's music, and the sales in drinks almost doubled. I'm not sure if this is a true reflection of choice of music, or of any importance to you, but perhaps it's as well to keep in mind the atmosphere a pub/club owner may want to generate connected to agenda-which may or may not be related to personal taste.

Apart from one track, still listening and enjoying. Good luck NEKRO. :)

Thanks. Well, I'm going to take it to pubs that would usually play a more alternative stuff anyway.

I just felt there was a lack of a night that played alternative chill out music, rather than the Ministry of Sound type chillout stuff.

Most of the bands featured here have a large fanbase. The aim is to attract fans of the music, but not drive away those that don't know the music.

Oh right. Most of the pubs round my way are a bit quiet and old fashioned anyway-so I probably don't know much enought to comment further. As I said, good luck. :)

Cool, thanks for the info :)
