Im getting married in August this year and am trying to find myself a wedding dress. Im not rich so all these designer places are out of the question. I've got about £250 to spend and am wanting to know places where i can go.

i know about Debenhams and TJHuges. Ive heard there is a place in sheffield where u can get designer ones at discount prices but dont know where or what its called. (They are ex-catwalk dress apparently)

Can anyone help???

:help:

Don't do it love. Divorce costs 15 times more than the wedding dress.

Who said Im bitter?

Congratulations Louise!

My friend got her dress from the hire shop on Arundel Gate (opposite Primark, it's upstairs). They sell them as well as hire - hers was brand new, but "last season" and it was gorgeous!

Congratulations Louise! There is a shop on Eccy Road called Pre Numptuals, or something like that. Dont know the prices though, but always have lots of nice dresses in the window! Good Luck!

I think you mean pronuptia !!!!

They have all sorts of dresses for all sorts of prices. but they do cater more for the top of the market.

If you set a budget though, they will stick to and not try to push a more expensive dress on to you.

Have you looked at any bridesmaid dresses, they are lots cheaper than wedding dresses and wedding dress shops do a white version of any bridesmaid dress design (it might have to be ordered in) if you find one you like the look of.

Same place for hire as before (Arundel Gate). Try the supermakets for bridesmaid dresses if your daughter is only young. The big shops like Asda and Tesco sometimes have them in and they aren't too expensive, but still very nice.

Is your bridesmaid a child? Next do some beautiful dresses for children.
They tend to have more party type dresses in in the autumn but you might still be ablt to find something suitable at this time of year.

Have you tried eBay Louise? I read a story recently (probably in 'Take a Break' ) about a woman who got all her wedding outfits on eBay and she saved hundreds of pounds!

Congrats anyway!

You probably dont want a secondhand dress for your wedding but it's really no different from hiring. I've heard of some of the gowns being brand new anyway ... the bride saw one she liked better or the wedding never took place - whatever.

St Luke's Shop at Woodseats have some fabulous bridal gowns and bridesmaids dresses ... they had a full window display last month and some of the gowns were absolutely lovely. I think they also have a shop on Ecclesall Rd.

Hope you have a wonderful day for your wedding anyway and you'll look beautiful whatever you choose :D every bride does!

Debenhams do have a good selection as do BHS. I'm getting married in Autumn so not looking for a few weeks yet but Debenhams did say that you can book the changing area of the Bridal Department in advance if you phone them for an appointment, then you can try on as much as you want without being rushed.

As for Bridesmaid dresses for little ones I saw in ASDA at Handsworth a few suitable dresses for that sort of age.

If you come across anything else please post on here...

I got my wedding dress from Blushes on St. Marys Gate, they were really good, had previously looked in Debenhams, where i was treated like something you had just stepped in, they really looked down there noses at me, i can definatly recommend Blushes, Bhs do some nice wedding dresses too, and their accessories are really reasonably priced.

I got mine from Blushes too, they're really good but a little on the expensive side. Especially when you add on dress adjustment costs (mine needed the hem taking up), also extra costs if you want a net and hoop.

I'm getting married in 4 weeks. I've hired my bridesmaid dresses and bought a dress for my flowergirl in the Debenhams sale earlier in the year. The Meadowhall branch of BHS are good for wedding stuff but I'm still waiting for the garters to come in.

It's called Francescas and its above the mens rental shop called Formal Affair you should be able to get all of your outfits from there! Not too expensive at all! Good luck and keep us informed! I can also recommend Blushes, but wouldn't necessarily say they were pricey. I got married in May last year and got my dress, shoes, tiara, basque and stole with dress adjustments for under £400. Bearing in mind that my tiara was £95 and my shoes were hand dyed by Rainbow Club to match my dress, that's not really bad going! I also had to have the dress taken up loads as I'm only 4' 11", let out a little at the bust and nipped in a bit at the waist. I was shocked at how reasonable it all was.

They honestly do have something to suit all styles and budgets. It also pleased me that they had samples in my size to try on - other shops I'd visited only seemed to have them in sizes 8 - 12.

I've just received the St Lukes newsletter and there was an article about the shop at Gleadless which said that they keep the wedding dresses in the upstairs stockroom, so if you visit the shops (there are 6 in Sheffield) you'll not see any on display. Perhaps you could ring them first to see what they have in stock. (http://www.stlukeshospice.org.uk)

Debenhams, Greenwoods and Austin Reed all hire in from the same supplier, so unless you are doing as we did (ushers all over the country) go for the cheapest.

We used Greenwoods because they coordinate all the paperwork for everyboody at one branch, so nobody gets the wrong thing!

my wife had someone come to do her hair last year before the wedding. i will get the number later when i get home.

she comes 2 weeks before the wedding for a rehearsal and charges £10 per person. she then also charges £10 on the day P.P.

i dont think she does make up though

Also try Debenhams

http://www.debenhamsweddings.com

They have them starting from £110 in their debut section.

Also www.sharethedream.co.uk do second hand designer wedding dresses.

Also try www.thedressmarket.net they also have 2nd hand dresses and you can specify county so that you can pick ones close enough to try on.

I got my dress from Christine Wales in Kiverton Park - it was a bit pricier than you are aiming for but they may be able to help you - I can highly recommend the service I received. I too have a little girl who is a bridesmaid and we got her a dress from Debenhams for £55 which wasn't bad and is beautiful. I agree that Ebay is also a great place to look. I got my shoes on there and also my tiaras from Australia - they have some really original stuff and don't cost a bomb - I got 3 tiaras for £26 including the postage!!
