Does anyone know goes on at what happens at the Corporation on Saturdays? I see zillions of no brain 12-13 year old ASBO wannabes gathering around the Devonshire Green area, intimidating people, generally causing mayhem, throwing bottles around, using the Green as a toilet and The Forum as a vomitorium....I can't believe what the police let them get away with.....someone told me they The Corporation - what's that all about?

Devonshire Green is a magnet for s8r boys/goths/freaks/yobbos/herberts etc all the time. There's a CCTV camera on a pole to keep an eye on them.
They feast in Subway then head to the green to congregate and participate in bizarre social rituals. The cermonies usually seem to involve nominating the oldest looking one to go and try to buy 10 Silk Cut and a bottle of cider which are then shared amongst the masses. As dusk approaches they slink off into the night via tram or bus, or more usually, the back of Mummy's Range Rover.

Still, it keeps them all in one place (which I avoid). And I'm sure we all did these things at that age.

Whilst we are moaning at the kids..... is it in fact their fault?

They are kids when all said and done and this is an organised event run by the corporation.... it is up to them to make sure enough security are provided to cover the event. It is not the polices responsibility to babysit such individuals and they should be refused entry if they are drunk!!!

Just think what division street is like on thurs/fri/saturday night with adults getting into mischief.

Would you rather the young adults congregate in residential areas being sick in your gardens or rather let them go to these organised events where as a community we can make sure they dont get into too much trouble....

We were all young once!!

Plus its next to a skate park that is constantly being used- therefore keeping them out of trouble- if they didn't have the club to go to or the skatepark to go to where would they be- going round town on the skateboards!!!!!

There should be MORE events like this to keep the youths of our city enertained.

aw man, all cities have areas like this. Before it was Devonshire Green it was the City hall steps a few years back. Theres similar areas in all cities Ive been to in the UK,.....Old Eldon Square in Newcastle anyone?

Theyre basically teenage kids just hanging out and doing what most of us done at one time or another. White lightening in the park anyone?....or was that just me?

And anyway, I quite like sitting in the windows of the Dev Cat and looking on as they trundle by....they look sweet in their little "uniforms" :)

Actually, I find that most alternative people, like those that go to Corporation, are from well to do families who are as far as you can get from "ASBO-wannabies". People that geninuely cause a lot of trouble (stealing, mugging etc.) don't waste their cash, or that of their parents, on skate boards and hooded jumpers.

I can understand people being a little intimidated by them, as they do their best to look unpleasant and antisocial, but at the end of the day, they're only clothes!

I'm with you 100% there. They're just middle class kids who wear black. You watch, when it starts getting dark they all jump on the bus back to millhouses and dore to have dinner with mummy and daddy.

Like I said, it's kinda sweet.

me and my mates have a right laugh on saturdays watching the little mini moshers get ready for kiddie corp, drinking 3 litre of cider and and falling all over the place asking me and my mates if we know anyone who can get served for another

i have a giggle at them on saturdays when im flyering in town sometimes but then i feel bad for laughing cause thats exactly what i did when i was their age!!! hanging about on city hall / devvy green drinking cider and causing harmless trouble. theyve gotta learn the lessons of life sometime! and the skatepark is the perfect place for them really ... least theyre confined to one area and have a place to go , a lot of kids dont have anywhere to go so they do theyre growing up somewhere else , like on street corners , which is a lot more intimidating!

they bring a bad name to proper dev scum like me and my mates

we dont drink cider n cause trouble

but we do sit on city hall and dev,and have done for years, gotta keep up the tradition ;)

If you feel intimidated by 12-13 year old's maybe you should take up some kind of self defence.

Living @ Dev.Court Ive gotta pass through them on my way up to West Street on Saturdays - theyre harmless, but that still doesnt mean we've gotta like them being there any less - I wish theyd confine themselves to the centre of the green -- waaaay in, so we dont have to notice them ; )

my son started hanging about on the steps and dev green a few years ago, since then hes turned into a right scruffy herbert and also started smoking stuff he shunt, and i know hes a right gob ****e so if its my lad thats caused anyone any greif ill apologise now, :|
i know there must be some good kids knocks about at these places but ive never seen my lad have any nice friends from there:suspect:

Litha , you must take into consideration that as a parent , your version of 'nice' is different to your kids ;) All the time i spent on city hall / devonshire green i met a few that are alright really , but lots of ****heads.
So i'm guessing the same can be said for this generation of them. Most of them are parasitic scum but theres a few in there that are probably decent kids and will grow up to be decent respectable citizens :) And think about it , its not just the ones on devonshire green is it ... theyre just the mini mosher kids .... theres gangs of chav kids too .... but they are less likely to stay confined to one area of town ! Least we got some of the lil blighters reasonably under control :) Its not just this year we have them , its been that way for years , and will be that way for years to come .... so i guess we should just leave them to it.

they used to hang around/board around the war memorial on Saturdays.

Looks at it this way:

1-Nu-Metal kids are hardly alternative.

2-I wish I had somewhere like the Corp to go to when I was in my young teens.

3-what is there to do for kids in Sheffield that's free?

Hell, when I was a youngster I used to hang around the park at night smoking joints and drinking. You are bored senseless at that age. I turned out alright :suspect:

When i was 12-14 this is what i was doing, i never caused any trouble but people i knew did with drugs/drink/anti-social behaviour. At one point i think there was some sort of cole brothers ban going on (this was a rumour) and that any kid looking "alternative" was banned from coles, i didnt believe this but you never no. All this sort of stuff calmed down when the police or the council put cameras on the green and there was police presence in the summer. Devonshire Green suddenly got quiet again, but is the problem coming back with the next generation of adolesent teens?

As for the corporation thing, they run an under 18s night 5-8 called K-Corp or Kiddy Corp and it used to cost about £3 to get in. Inside it was a mess, i never liked the place, full of kids smoking weed, topless 12 yr olds, 14 year old drunks and the likes. The last time i went was about 3 years ago and i got smacked round the head by a lil kid with a metal chain (no older than 9!!!) who thought it was hilarious!! :loopy:

well i cant grumble, im 36 but been there done that......hanging around drinking and smoking in the peace gardens/little peace gardens/fargat fountain/devonshire green/city hall steps etc in my late teens/early 20s mind

i was the one with a green mohican LOL

but even when ****** i was always not out for trouble, i always remember a younger friend kicked over a bin as we came out of the frog and parrot one saturday and i gave him a punch and told him not to do it again when i was with him

theres having a laugh and theres disrespecting those around you, im an anarchist (which means being free to do what you want, AS LONG AS IT DOESNT IMPACT ON OTHERS LIVES or stop those doing what they want) - live life how youd want to be treated, i dont think vandalism, being scared and violated would be tbh

Is it just me or is there something extremely sinister about one of the children on the K-Corp gallery?... (http://www.corporation.org.uk/CORPFRAMESHOME_files/galleries/kcorp/xmaskc/xmaskc.htm)

I also have a son who goes to Kiddy Corp.
He says he is getting too bored now as he is 15.
I know that they spend all saturday afternoon hanging around and then going to Corp at around 5.He comes out at 8 and gets home not long after.
I have always suspected that they are up to no good, but without turning up at Devonshire greeen in the afternoon to spy on him, I really cannot prove what I suspect.
He doesnt appear drunk at all when he comes in ,but I guess that does not mean there has not been alcohol around.
the police were supposed to be clamping down and stopping them buying alcohol in the nearby shops.
Not sure how successful this has been.
If they break the law, then they pay for the consequences, but, as already has been said, there is little else for them to do and the skate Park is there for that age group.
At least is is in town , and the police should always be policing those areas anyway, in my view
