I took this last year in Hillsborough Park,it was a very sunny day(yes) and the sun was reflecting strongly on the water. As I was walking down towards the pond I saw this about to happen,so instantly up with the camera at whatever setting was used last, and shoot and this is what I got. Some photoshop(auto levels and unsharp mask I think).I quite like the effect what do you think?Plenty of views and no comments.GO on tell me I won't cry

Great shot - good action and focus on the birds. The only thing I would try and do is to get a bit more contrast between the birds and the water, the colour is perhaps to close... my first post on the forum, got to start somewhere!

that's that i thought, kind of camouflaged to the water ;)
But all in all an amazing action shot
As a person that loves wildlife - pretty good capture. You did well to get them framed reasonably well.
As a photographer... would be less complementary I'm afraid. Too much of the same colour, not enough differance in colur between birds/water.
The birds are perhaps a touch under exposed? Possibly due to the bright highlights in the reflections in the water throwing of the TTL meter.

I thank you all for your well meant criticism.I am well aware of the technical shortcomings of this photo and respectfully ask you to read the opening post and thread title.
What if I titled it herons by moonlight?

This is what is called a grab shot. The thing about grab shots is, they either work or they don't. You have to be very lucky to get one spot on.
As such this shot is very good. It may be under exposed but this can be sorted in photoshop to some extent.
The skill is to be able to anticipate the action and capture it, and, to this end you did very well.

Thank you that's exactly what it was a grab shot.Another advantage of digital no need to worry about the cost of wastage.
