View Full Version : Software for making a mix CD
NEKRO138 19-06-2008, 11:43 Ok, I've decided I'm going to try and whore myself out doing a DJ set.
I haven't got the gear to do a live mix at home, so I'm going to have to do it on my PC.
I can then try and use the mix to get a slot some place.
Can anyone recommend some free software?

there is no good free programs m8 and if you use a mix that a pc has done its not really you is it and what would you do if the pc said NOOOOO half way through a set could you pull your vynil out and recover plus if the dti come in which they do and you havent got originals to back up what your using youll get F####d and the owner will aswell so i recomend you spend a few grand on some proper gear lock yourself in a room for at least 2 years and practice hard.:)
Fantomas 19-06-2008, 12:00 I haven't had time to try it out yet, but this (http://www.wordmagazine.co.uk/content/most-essential-piece-software-world-ever) might be what you're after. It's expensive but you get 20 day's free first.

I agree mate, I wouldn't be using the software when I did my slot.
I can do live mixing, have DJed before and would be doing it live if I got a DJ slot. I wouldn't use computers, it's just to do a mix cd to pass round to give them an idea of what I do.
so what kind of music do you play and dssdj is a good one im sure i could get you a copy
NEKRO138 19-06-2008, 12:10 It's going to be ambient but alternative. There'll be downtempo drum n bass, drone, shoegaze, experimental, folk, indie and psychadelia.
The idea is that people who are into the stuff would come along, but it would also make nice background music for people wanting a quiet drink and a chat.
Dssdj? I'll look it up cheers.
I found one called Mixmeister that does the job but it costs to remove the promo messages every few minutes.
have you sussed it ???you may need a cracker code for it.
NEKRO138 19-06-2008, 12:31 I'm going to have a fiddle with the demo after dinner. I'll let you know, cheers.

Currently thinking of building a new PC just for it to run that and store the music.

Traktor is by far the best software for mixing 'deck like', i have played out using that on my laptop many times. And i believe Abelton live is the king of digital mayhem, quite a few dj's use it.

+1
Yeh Traktor's fairly good for a deck 'simulation', I've used it in the past and had good results. If you're fairly serious about it I'd get hold of Ableton Live though, I believe most of the pro mixes are done using it now and the possibilities are pretty much endless.
audacity is the one you want.....

Why? Ableton can't cope so well if you do not want to Beatmatch. It's a brilliant tool but if you like to mess around with different tempos, it's not so hot.
Personally I'd like a mixing solution that emulated how Pioneer DJ decks work as it so simple and elegant in use and very powerful as a result. I tried Pioneer's virtual CDJs a while back but it was still somewhat ropey, not to mention the remarkably hideous UI.
