Today would have been Nick Drake's 60th birthday. Anybody else sitting listening to his music today?

I hadn't remembered that it would have been his birthday until you pointed it out- thank you.

I am now, thanks!

I never realised it was on the summer solstice, kind of fitting really...

Nick Drake on CD? I have resisted that temptation so far. Getting the very worn and crackly LPs out is such an essential part of the ritual ...

Have you noticed how often Nick Drake's music is used as a backing track on TV programmes? Every snatch I hear blasts me back to my late teens. Very disconcerting.

Great music. I listen to his stuff a lot, still. Such a tragic waste of a massive talent, but he was a very sick boy. If he hadn't killed himself I think he'd have had a life in and out of mental institutions.
At least in his mind, he had a personal reason to want to end his life. Avoidable deaths like those of Hendrix, Tim Buckley or Jeff Buckley are even more pointless.

I had to get them on CD because it was cheaper than buying a new turntable when that broke and was unfixable. The same financial hiatus also gave me the chance of making some serious money by selling my first pressing copies of his albums which were in mint condition since I only ever played the other copies.

And yes- Nick Drake spotting on TV is a good pastime. Makes me wonder why I like him so much, bearing in mind that I never heard any of his tracks when he was alive because I was only 4 when he died.
