had this service for 3 months now and its the biggest bag of **** ive ever had, i timed it today and had just under 4 minutes of actually viewing the internet and the rest watching the little window in the bottom corner tell me that the connection was local only, its been like this since near enough the 1st week we had it and numerous phone calls to india or south africa has not cured the bad service, there is only some many times we can ring the helpline and be on 25 mins, has anybody else had the same trouble, we even had to reset passwords as it would not recognise the ones we had, still the bloke in the carphone warehouse was nice, suggested i pay extra £10 per month for maintence support!! yeah ok. who else is having trouble with it

I had a lot of trouble - it died, I tried it with different modems, spent ages on the phone like you. Eventually they sent someone round (after I'd had to take apart the BT socket for them and after a good 6 phonecalls and them not calling back when they said they would, each time a 2-4-day wait) and they said it was definitely the wireless modem router which was wrong. I'd had the modem for about 4 months before that. I took it back to the shop and got a full refund (first time PC World have been any good), replaced it with a different make and ended up buying a flat 5e cable, which I've posted under the carpet. It's been flawless since. TalkTalk were supposed to bill me if the engineer said it was my hardware's fault. They haven't yet. That was a couple of months ago. That tune starts to grate, doesn't it?

The other thing - they don't say if you've exceeded your monthly limit, they just cut your speed and wait for you to phone them, after which they just put it back again. What's the point of fast speeds if you can't download very much?

By the way - my 'up to' 8Meg is usually about 5.5-6 Meg for downloads. Uploads about 370kbps. It's not bad, really.

Hi. I signed up with Talktalk on the very first day it was launched in April 2006. At first it was a nightmare which I could undersatand to a certain degree because there were thousands all signing up in the first few days but it was bad got to admit. Since it was all sorted after about 3months not much trouble, just the odd snag now and again which you can expect from anybody. The best feature about Talktalk is that the price is still the same as I signed up to and there arn't many companies who have not put there prices up in over 2years. The best thing about Talktalk is the price I pay on average £22 per month and when you think that is all your phone calls all day it's great. A friend of mine rings his daughter every Sunday in Australia for free, that is good, after 60mins he puts down the receiver then redials and he is on for another hour, can't be bad. I wouldn't change, unless of course they bang their prices up.

AAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH - do not mention Talk Talk broadband to me. RUBBISH. That reminds me must switch internet providers. It's slow, takes me several attempts for the modem to kick in and for some reason we can only use 1 PC at a time with the wireless router.:suspect::suspect:

The amount of trouble ive had with talk talk is untrue
Been with them a while and everything was fine until about 3 months ago
since then the connection on my internet died my phone line died

Ive spoken to almost every one in the deli contact centre about 6 times

Spoken to broadband support and 2nd line support many times

Spoke to various managers and still not got it sorted
If you aint already with talk talk i recommend you avoide them at all costs

Ive had to get in touch with Ofcom twice before i got anything i would consider even half an answer

And the problems are still going on

In Short - talktalk = Bad

Been with them a year, not had any major problems. I use my own equipment (DSL) and it works a treat. I only get 4meg but that's what I got with BT, it's still the same line but a lot cheaper.

It's deen down only once in the year I've had it. Plus I don't have any stupid restrictions from 6-12 at night like I did with PlusNet.

I'm with Talktalk Broadband and calls package, it's a regular occurance that my connection will go and come back, then go again, then come back, and so on. It's so frustrating, however the calls package is pretty good and our bills have been cheaper then they were with BT.

One funny thing is, it has taken since September 07 for my online registrastion to actually come through to manage my accounts and register for paperless billing, despite numerous emails to them. I can now finally manage my account online, and I think once my 12 months are up it will be bye bye talk talk.

I think its an 18-month contract. I have had no problems with TalkTalk. I could end my contract sometime this year, but I can't be bothered with the messing about. When I last changed I ended up paying TalkTalk and BT for line rental because I was sure he said they would cancel it for me. TalkTalk actually refunded me £15.99, which was nice. They were also really quick at sending an engineer when my telephone line was cut (by the window fitters) which I luckily didn't have to pay for because it was outside the house, (forunately but only by millimetres)

Bit of advice if you're looking for a smooth fast connection, try bethere.co.uk I have a 24mb line and get at least 16mb Down and 1.3mb Up at the worst of times. I have also had my connection up now for 4 months without drop-out, all for £17.99

The usual free wireless modem affair too with FREE telephone support, and you talk to the engineer on picking the phone up too, not an indian robot

EDIT: Hmm if you want a better idea of the speed, I can have the full contents of a CD (700mb) downloaded in less than 20 minutes :D

Ok -from a tech point of view - talk talk isn't the best out there by a long chalk! If you have it and have problems with it - I've solved many of the issues people are facing by buying a replacement router or usb broadband modem for friends who have been lumbered with one of the cranky rubbish ones - mitsu-something I think are the worst.

If you can dump TalkTalk (if you have a problem with them) I can heartily recommend "Vodafone At Home" - telephone and 10mbps internet (we dont have cable around here so thats supremely quick to be honest!)....also the HUGE bonus is their support staff for the phone/broadband and mobile phone are unbelievably friendly and helpful. I have my mobile (500 texts/200 minutes), home phone (unlimited calls to landlines and vodafone mobiles) and internet and it works out about £40 a month for the lot as I managed to re-negotiate my mobile deal with them as I didnt want a new phone!

happy days! dynamick :)

I'm lucky too, I was really reluctant to go with Talk Talk as I read so many bad reviews, but to be honest at the time all the reviews for all the broadband providers were rubbish, so I took a chance and my connection, phone etc is all okay.

Watch it all go wrong now!

Had talk talk and was paying £22.00 per month, all calls inclusive but just subscribed to Sky. Got satellite tv (4 packages) free broadband and all inclusive calls for a pound more and its been spot on. Only trouble is I have turned into the 'remote monster' and absolutely hooked on Deadliest Catch........

I signed up to TalkTalk broadband in the big rush of 'free broadband' back in 2006, and at the start had no problems at all.

Things when awry about seven months into the contract when they changed the 0114 247 exchange (Mosborough) so I no longer used a BT line but rather used their own equipment. The first thing they did was double the line speed, which was set low as i was a long distance from the exchange.

That took numerous months to sort out as everytime Support switched me to a profile that worked either a automated change of another member of support realised the line was a bit slow and would change it again.

Talking to Support on the 'phone was a nightmare - poor English and huge wait times meant my bill was high enough for them to start giving me back the money as they acknowledged it was their problem (one of the few good things they managed).

This, coupled with numerous phone and broadband outages (we went two weeks with no phone what so ever at one point due to a fault with their hardware in the exchange) prompted me to move back to BT when the 12 month contract was up.

Even that didn't go as planned; it took three months for the change over (should have been 2 weeks) as TT refused to cancel my line properly so BT couldn't take it up.

That was in May 2007; TT then took a direct debit out the bank (I forgot to cancel the DD instruction when I moved to BT) for June 2007 and sent me a bill for July 2007, taking my money and asking for more cash for two months when they didn't even supply any services.

They finally refunded me the money and admitted that they had made a mistake in December 2007.

However, it hasn't ended - I was sent a bill in April 2008 asking for £27! This was the money they had taken as the final DD in error and refunded. It took three phone calls to TT to resolve that, and for them to confirm my account balance was zero.

I then received a letter last month from a debt collection agency for TT's £27. After much wrangling on TT's hotline to India and the debt collection people, TT have confirmed it is a mistake and my balance is not just zero, but the account is closed - but the collection agency have not received this information from TT and have no reason to believe what I tell them.

I am expecting a baliff or court order in the next few weeks, chasing an imaginary £27 (plus likely agency charges). Great.

For those of you on TT at the moment and haven't had a problem; it won't last!

Is your connection any better yet? I had my 'phone and, consequently my broadband go off completely several times over the last 3 weeks. Done exactly the same as you with hours on end to Deli, I know all the poems by Roger Mc chuffing Gough than I care to remember (you need to 'phone Talktalk to know what I mean!) trying to resolve it.
They are supposed to be sending me a new modem after telling me it was their broadband, my equipment, had to disconect everything several times. Needless to say, the phone went off again yesterday, the internet keeps dropping out and I still haven't received the modem after 3 weeks!
They would be very willing to send an engineer to check my home connection but, will charge me £140.00.
Has anyone else had the same experience? I'm in S11.

I'd avoid TalkTalk at all costs. We switched to them in July and less than a month later we're already back with BT.

The TalkTalk broadband service only worked sporadically for the first week then stopped working completely. I spent hours on the phone to Indians and South Africans and got nowhere. Eventually they posted a new modem but it took ages to arrive. There's only a small range of equipment guaranteed to work with the TalkTalk service - my perfectly decent 3com modem refused to sync at all and they won't provide any support if you ain't using their equipment. At one point I was even asked to dismantle my phone socket and do some minor engineering on their behalf with something called a ring wire. The phone line was poor, calls disconnected with no warning, caller display sometimes worked but not always, certain relatives couldn't even dial our landline. The billing was incorrect as well.

Like I said just avoid them. They're cheap for a reason.

i've heard lots of people complain about talk talk - a largge percentage of them weren't really talktalk screwing up, but the customer not knowing what they are doing

i've had talk talk for calls and broadband for around 16 months now and have never had any problems... good connection speeds and one dropout about a year ago that lasted about 15 minutes... maybe i'm the lucky one in a million - but it's been fine for me and is the best value option price wise i've found

the little window in the bottom corner tell me that the connection was local only

i might be wrong - but that sounds like the connection between your pc and the wireless router - which obviously talktalk can't do anything about

have you looked into this? is it going through walls or radiators? is it close enough?

How satisfied are you with BT please? We are thinking of changing from Talktalk since this last episode as 3 weeks is a long time for a modem to arrive (not here yet) we've spent more time on the 'phone talking to their people than our own family, I'm sick of them!
Everytime I call I'm held for up to 50 minutes before speaking with anyone then, it's the usual, unplug the 'phone filter etc.etc.etc. We've installed a new phone filter then yesterday, off line again.
If we just want BT phone & Broadband has anyone any idea how much it will cost as BT will not give a straight answer when I ask them, they want to sell me the BT Vision package.
We just want a telephone and Broadband which will work 24 hours a day, nothing else.
My line has gone down again whilst I've been typing this!

You're not alone, I haven't a dropout yet and get a steady 6.8mb (http://www.speedtest.net/result/308725487.png), though I'll probably be hearing from TT soon if my usage doesn't drop a little...

Rumor has it that TT are very close to lifting the 8mb cap on their ADSL2+ LLU service, so if they raise the monthly download limit a little at the same time, i'll be happy.

I am currently in dispute about the extortionate charges they are trying to charge me.

I was supposed to go online on June 9 but got my phone cut off for a week instead.

I eventually got online on June 24.

Received intermittent signals for four days and then no signal.

I was so peed off with talking to their Indian call centre who can only fob you off with false promises, I packed them in.

They are now trying to charge me for not providing any kind of service.

The best advice I can give anyone thing about Talk Talk is forget it.

They ought to rename the company into Foboff-Foboff, it would be a more appropriate name

Ignore the TV adverts which are a sick joke and go with someone reliable and chiefly, go with someone you can talk to about any problems that may occur.

Around £35 a month for me, but thats on the top whack unlimited package with the wireless router, VoIP phone, 8 Mb line etc. Yes it might be expensive, but since I left Talk Talk (see my earlier post above) nothing at all has gone wrong. Not with the service, the router, the telephone line or the monetary side.

What you pay is what you get. I believe that I also get free evening and weekend calls now, and its a quick enough connection to support two people playing Warcraft together as well as a pretty constant LimeWire download..

I am very pleased with talk talk. I used to be with Pipex and swapped to talk talk which reduced my phone and internet bill by £30 per month which amounts to £360 per year. If people are having disconnection problems I suggest they go into their router configuration and select the option that is called either nail connection or always on. I am using three computers on a talk talk wireless router. I am also making VPN connections to my office and using remote desktop to access my computer.

I pay about £23 per month (inc. VAT) and get free anytime calls and Line Rental included.

Thanks for that info the_ bloke, that gives me some idea. BT were very guarded about giving me a quote for BT 'phone & Broadband, they wanted to set up an account before quoting me for costs.
We've been with Talktalk for about 2 years and, until about 6 months ago had very few problems, nothing is perfect we realise that. This last couple of months have been a nightmare with the calls to their call centre occupying most of my day all to no avail.
The modem still hasn't arrived after over 3 weeks and, the 'phone invariably goes off once a day, once the modem arrives and if we still have problems I think I'll be going to BT.
Thanks to all for your advice.

TalkTalk are absolutely shocking. We had a decent connection going at one point with no problems at all - decent downloads speeds aswell. Then all of a sudden we had next to nothing connection and download speeds. I phoned them up on numerous occasions to see what the problem was and all they kept telling me was that the line was fine and that it was a problem with my router.

So I changed routers and the problem still persisted. And then, all of a sudden, we had no connection at all. But then the connection came back, then it went again, then came back and so on..... shocking.

They got a stern phone call and we've now switched to o2 broadband - i'm an existing o2 customer with my mobile, so i've got a discount on the 20meg package (£15 a month). I set all of this up on the phone on Wednesday night - got my wireless router in the post yesterday and should be connected on Monday. So far so good.

But TalkTalk should be avoided at all costs. I wrote about this on my blog and somebody from the Carphone Warehouse replied to it - they must have an anti TalkTalk monitor out there that must scan every website in the UK looking for people slagging them off - so watch out!

This is the same story as ours, was O.K. then it went off then intermittent. We still haven't received our new modem which was (alledgedly) in the post Monday, then told the same on Tuesday, then Thursday. I've 'phoned them today and they say it wasn't put in the post until yesterday so all previous 'phone calls where I was told that it had been sent were "lies" then! They have sent me a "Returns bag" though we still haven't received a replacement yet.
The 'phone has been off each day at some point for the last 3 weeks, all our equipment has been checked and a new 'phone filter installed.
It looks like a potential BT customer to migrate from Talktalk or should they be renamed Mutemute?
