I have herd of rumours of GT News closing soon in Crystal Peaks.
Has anyone else herd of or has any details on this information?

If they close, and the Post Office closes too, that will be a big blow.

I hope that this isn't true, it would be a great inconvenience if it was.

Ah, so I wasn't wrong about that then!

It just didn't seem to hit the right target there. Everything it sold could be bought in Wilkinsons with more choice. Except the papers, which it could sell out of a kiosk more cost effectively

GT News in Crystal Peaks has an excellent selection of books on Sheffield and the local area - well worth a visit.

Seems a few are closing down recently, (Frechville is for sale afaik) if not being converted to Spar shops (aka White Lane / City Road)

I work at another GT News in the area and we have been told that all of the stores are being sold to buy more Spar's. This is because they are both owned buy the same company and spars make a load more money, compared to GT. They also sell the same items as well.
I would have thought that GT News in crystal peaks is one of the biggest in the centre. Also you can buy newspapers in sainsburys if you wanted one.

When I was in Crystal Peaks early in the New Year they were asking people what shops they would like to see in the centre once this next phase of building work is complete!!

My suggestions were Primark and Woolworths!!

What would other people like to see there???

I much prefer a trip to Crystal Peaks than Meadowhall!!!

Primark would fit in well up there.

Big W is just in the throws of becoming Woolworths, but that means they no longer do dog baskets  (but that's another thread)

Perhaps WHSmith? Although they probably won't want a unit that's unsuccessful in their field

Or a games/music shop?

I like Woolies but the ones in Meadowhall were just small ladybird clothes/Video & music units (since disappeared)......

I never shop in Sheffield City ie., the Moor coz I think it's too expensive to park and I am a nervous driver in town as not sure where to go with tram tracks, no entry signs, one way signs etc...that's another thread!!

And Big W is just too big and too far out for me to think of visiting!!

A woolies the size of the Moor would be great in Crystal Peaks!!!!

They can shut Big W down for good and open an Ikea!!

But Crystal Peaks is further 'out' than Big W

And it's quite small as these 'sheds' go

Which also means it's too small to be an Ikea

Now this is why I think that there should be a ruddy great big carpark where they demolished the markets. It would address the very real fear that people have of driving in a complicated and/or unfamiliar city centre.

But what do i' know? I'm not a town planner

Well not for me.... it's not worth it to travel to Catcliffe for a browse in a maximum of 2 shops...Big W & Morrisons!!!

That why I like Crystal Peaks.....

Ikea well obviously too big to fit into the skin of Big W but a prime spot off the parkway and still all that wasteland to develop!!

I heard in another posting that Ikea were refused planning in Sheffield because Coles (John Lewis) objected!! Poles apart though in terms of the type of people that shop with them!!! So I wouldn't have thought would affect their sales etc!!

Crystal peaks needs a big HMV, dont think it would be a very big store if it replaced GT news though.

OOPS!

This (http://www.crystalpeakscentre.com/redevelopment.asp) is the correct link but sadly it isn't working at the moment. Let's hope it picks up again, later.

Essentially it said that when J Sainsbury move into their new store, the old one will become three units and Next will be one of those.

(Thanks for picking it up guys. Lucky it was only the BBC page, eh?:D)
