Hi.
Does anyone know of any good pub quiz nights local to the S6 area? We do go in the Crown and Glove aka Top House here in Stannington on a Wednesday night for the quiz but the pub has recently changed hands and the new management are making the quizzes too hard, a view shared by most of the locals as a lot of people have stopped going in on quiz nights.
So Dad, myself and my Uncle are looking for an alternate venue that does a good quiz night, preferably on a week night.
Anyone got any ideas?
hotphil 11-04-2005, 08:26 PM The Holly Bush does quizzes Sunday and Tuesday and they mostly put on a little spread of food after! Most people are in it for the fun of it rather than to win - makes for a good atmosphere.
Magneteer 11-04-2005, 09:04 PM The Anvil has a good general knowledge quiz on Tuesday nights. Starts about 10 ish and is free to enter, with a prize of a gallon of beer/lager. They also put on a couple of trays of sarnies. The beer in there is excellent too, especially the cask ones.
jayne67 11-04-2005, 09:18 PM Malin Bridge has a good quiz on Thursdays its something like 25p to enter, but you chose two tote numbers for a chance to win up to 100.00. Beer for quiz winner (I think cant remember now), but good nite anyhow.

Hmm, Holly Bush is only 10 minutes down the road from us so that's a possible.

BoroughGal 16-04-2005, 04:23 PM Horse and Jockey on a Tuesday (music) and Thursday (general knowledge) night. Fairly easy-ish to win, as well.

It's not the winning we're bothered about, it's the fact that at our age (well more Dad's and me Uncle's age) it's a bit humbling not knowing the answers to some of the questions set recently by the Quiz Master up at Top House.
BraveDave 18-04-2005, 07:19 PM the wisewood inn in loxley do a decent quiz on a tuesday night which isnt to bad and its a really friendly atmosphere. ive also just started working at the yew tree and they have theirs on a wednesday night. ive not been to it but ive been told its good im working this wednesday so ill let you know.

michelley 06-05-2005, 12:51 PM The Shakey on Hillsborough Corner do a good quiz on Tuesday nites - quiz starts about 9.30 (and its free!), they chuck questions in where the first person to write the answer down and get to the quizmaster wins a free pint! Theres sarnies on after the quiz (also free!)!
Dad and I went to the quiz in the Robin Hood on Wednesday night, was good.. Didn't do too bad either for first time out, 15 out of 30, there were 2 in a tie break on 18 to win it.
The questions were split into categories, History, Geography, General Knowledge, Food and Drink and finally Pop music... My best subjects were general knowledge and pop.
We even had a go on the raffle, didn't win though :(

IAN B 09-08-2006, 01:17 PM The Travellers at Wadsley Bridge do a great quiz every Wednesday (about 2130hrs) and Sunday (about 1700hrs).
Wednesday is general knowledge offering drinks prizes plus an "Open the Box" competition, which offers the chance to win up to £250.
Sunday is also general knowledge and there's a bonus 'cash' question that starts at fifty quid (but has gone as high as £370) and its' followed by disco/karaoke.

Get down the Holly Bush then. The question are psis easy and they do it on a bingo card basis so even if you only get 5 right you could still win.
I go down about once a month.(oo er)
8balltiger 09-08-2006, 06:37 PM there's a music quiz, followed by bingo on saturday nights at the meadow, upperthorpe/shalesmoor

Oh yeah the Robin Hood does it like that as well now, we've won a few times as well... One week a while back we won both the quiz AND the raffle, Landlady was like, WTF?!YOU again?! (She didn't literally say WTF) :hihi: and I'm like "Hey, I can't help it if I'm smart as well as good looking!"
