Im considering switching vets because Im sure mine is whay overpriced (and advising me to have expensive treatment thats not needed) I used to use crooks and partner years ago and only switched when i 'rescued' the latest dog because she was registered here (cant mention which one) any way, it got me thinking, which is the cheapest vets around?

I think Spire at Chesterfield always comes outwell- havent used them myself though. Vets4Pets have some good offers on too and what's more, they actually show a lot of interest in the animals and people that come to their practice. We're not registered with them (we're further down the road with Park Vets) but I'm sometimes sorely tempted to switch

I'm tempted to go to Peak after hearing such good things about them on the forum. I love our vet, but it does worry me that they now use the VetsNow service for emergency treatment. Peak don't, and they have someone on the premises 24 hours a day if your pet need care throughout the night. They are also open until 9pm in the week, which helps me with work etc and open sundays too. It seems to be OK for people to have time off whenever they feel like it if their kids are ill. I don;t have kids but if any of my pets need taking to the vets I have to work up my time. Grrrrrr.

have a look at peak vets website - they do discounts for ongoing treatments required, and a discount off your first visit, plus they're open seven days and until late. They cover their own out of hours which has already saved us at least £300!

we've just registered our kitten with Vets4Pets.

Their best start package seems very good value (to us) and the vetinary team (husband & wife) seem really friendly and 'into' pets, my OH said there were lots of photos of their cats on the walls. They answered my e-mail query the same day with lots of reassuring information.

We've signed Loki up for the vaccination for life deal, which seems remarkable value.

I use Wakerley and Speed at Killamarsh and Dronfield. They are very reasonable and I am particularly fond of Mrs Wakerley - she has always been very supportive when I have have had to deal with the loss of any of my pets. I have used them for over 10 years. The staff are great at Highfields, London Road but they are very expensive.

It depends on the weight to be honest, if you give them a ring they would be able to tell you

Oh right, thank you.

I phoned the one at Gleadless townend, they said it would cost around £160 per dog (I have 2) they are medium sized dogs. Does anyone know if this is about right?

They are both lovely and we would consider switching but it's just the faff of it. I sometimes use this practice for the rescues

Another vote for Peak Vets at Woodseats, they are cheaper than some others but I find their out of hours or emergency treatment service the most important aspect.
They have a car park as part of their premises so you probaly wouldn't have problems carrying any large pet from the car into the building, I bet if you were going to struggle they'd come and help, they do really care, not just for the animal but also the owners, they've certainly managed to re-assure me on occasion.
