View Full Version : Green cottage cheese pooh?
Birth-Peace 17-06-2008, 07:43 Hello,
Annabel has had three lots of green pooh that has a cottage cheese consistency. I'm a teeny bit concerned as it is so different from anything she has had before.
She has had green pooh every now and then but never with the cottage cheese look.
Any thoughts?
Hi, I think green pooh is a sign of colic. How old is she?
Birth-Peace 17-06-2008, 07:52 She is six weeks old today. She has had a touch of colic before but not with the cottage cheese pooh.
She might have a bit of an upset tummy. Do you breast feed? Can you call the health visitor?
Birth-Peace 17-06-2008, 08:02 I do breast feed. I can't find the number for the Health Visitor
Have you eaten anything different? Do you know where your health visitor is based? Im not sure if you can phone the doctors to find out. At my doctors you can ask for a doctor to call you at home, you could try that.
*vanessa* 17-06-2008, 08:16 Ollie, if you contact your doctor, they will give you your health visitors number.
I shouldn't worry about the cottage cheese thing, pooh comes in all shapes and sizes!
If your breastfeeding, perhaps you ate something different?
Vanessa

*vanessa* 17-06-2008, 08:18 Does babies’ poop look different than a formula fed baby?
Yes. It even smells different! It doesn’t smell bad. When babies are born, they have a black tarry stool called merconium for a few days. Then the poop changes to a brownish color to greenish then to yellow. Breastfed babies’ poop looks yellow by about day five. It can be watery or look like mucus or have little seedy looking or cottage cheese looking particles in it. Breastfed babies poop about 4 times a day for several weeks. As they get older, they may have fewer but bigger poops. Around 4 to 6 months of age baby may change their patterns and not have poops for several days and that is normal.
I found that on Google, Ollie
Birth-Peace 17-06-2008, 10:53 Oh thank you so much Vanessa, thats great :)
Its usually just the curd off the milk the colour is normal in a bf baby and can sometimes indicate your baby is going through a growth spurt and needs a bit more milk. If your baby is happy there is nothing to worry about its perfectly normal if she seems sick then its always best to get it checked out.
When they are ill even though they are just breastfed there poo stinks you'll spot it a mile off and they'll have a dirty nappy every 5 secs. You can't miss that, oh the joys.
Birth-Peace 17-06-2008, 20:12 Thank you for your comments. I think you are right about the growth spurt, she has been feeding non stop all day. My poor boobs :)
ANd I can assure you that poop consistancy, colour, texture and all other variants changes even with twins who have eaten the same food. Unless it contains blood or looks especially strange or especially liquid I would never worry about it.
Don't go running to the Dr's with your DD's nappy at 16 months that looks like it's full of blood. To only be asked if she had had any red food that day. My face was nearly as red as the nappy, when I explained she had had a strawberry smoothie that day and when you looked closer at the nappy, you could see it was red strawberry poo
duckweed 18-06-2008, 21:25 I had a child with blue poo. Turned out she'd been chewing blue paper which dyed the poo. Also birthday cake with coloured icing can create some interesting colours
