Hi,
I work within a Sheffield Council-led programme called 'BiG - Make it Your Business'. This new business development initiative aims to provide tailored support specifically to people from Sheffield's regeneration (or 'Closing the Gap') areas who have an interest in setting up a business.
My role (as a Neighbourhood Enterprise Champion) is as a first point of contact and continued support for those with an interest in self employment to work through/overcome socio-economic barriers, enabling them to develop their ideas into successful, sustainable enterprises. A large part of what I do is connecting people's ideas with the right opportunities - from specialist business advice to the right training and information as well as advice on accessing finance.
For more information, call the 'BiG' team on 0800 043 5522 or see the website thebigwebsite.org.uk
Hope you found this info useful - Rob.

Are you serious?
PRINCESS UP 17-06-2008, 20:55 serious about whot ukstudent explane
If you are looking to set up, there is loads of support and advice available. It sounds as if you might need to refine your idea a bit, though I know it can be difficult to describe at first.
A basic grasp of English is always a good start I think.
Vrsaljko 18-06-2008, 11:21 Why would anyone need someone to come in and do what you've just described? To be honest I don't see why they would bother as you appear to have trouble spelling the word 'know'.
Without having a dig about your spelling - do you think there is a demand for the service you intend to provide?
My advice would be to put a bit more thought into what you actually want to do, and how you can make a profit from it - maybe put it down on paper and eventually come up with a business plan (there are templates available on line to get you started)
When you have a firmer idea, you may want to get help from someone to put together you final draft of your plan just to make sure its laid out correctly with all the relevant info, and the spelling and grammar is correct (seems pedantic, but it goes a long way).
Once you have a firm plan you can start to think about you next steps.
I strongly recommend BIG, they helped me with settng up my house and office clean business in February of this year! The advice they give and support afterwards is amazing, i can honeslty say they ave given me the motivation and encouragement to go and my business is climbing the ladder of success! I'm even starting to advertise for staff within the next few weeks and this is all down to the BIG team, giving me the confidence and advice to goforward and to not give up. It's hard work keeping on top of it all, but well worth it with BIG behind you all the way! Good Luck Princess x x
indizine 18-06-2008, 14:52 It isnt very nice nor is it necessary to pick on folk with poor spelling, not least if English inst their first language if that is the case here.
Many people start and run a business with poor spelling, grammar, etc, whether its down to language issues or dyslexia or just didnt do as good at school as others, certainly it need not stop someone becoming successful in business. OP just needs help from the right people.
PRINCESS UP 18-06-2008, 20:22 thanks for your replys i no my spellings not very good so thanks for telling me. this is something that ive heard from a lot of people who work for employers on how there warehouses are in a mess and they havent got the time to sort out things and that they have had people to come in and sort, plan and organise it for them as well as computer work for automated picking etc so they can work a lot quicker and better as it put stock levels correct. for anyone else i find it hard to write down things but when i comes to talking people understand were am coming from its not my fault thats life but anyway thanks for your replys i will take it all on board
OK - if you're confident when talking to people, call up a few of these people who run the warehouses and ask if they would be interested in such a service. This is essentially a bit of market research.
Is this a business that would require a lot of investment to get started, or would you yourself be the main asset?
Dont worry about your spelling - it needn't hold you back in this day and age, plenty of people with dyslexia run very successful businesses.
PRINCESS UP 18-06-2008, 20:51 first thing ive not got dyslexia second thing they have all ready payed people to do the work for then ..as for investment i dont no its just somethink that am good at and would like one day to work for myself so am looking for feedback and good advice thats why am on here writing to people like yourself for a bit of help it dosnt have to be this kind of work but you have to start some were in life and i think the more people ask me questions the more i question myself about this kind of work or may be look at somthink a bit more simple but one day i hope i will find it thanks floyd77
Well dont give up at the first hurdle!
All businesses start with an idea - if its something you're already good at then you're off to a winning start, its the turning that idea into something tha can turn a profit that is a bit tricky. If it was easy everyone would do it.
With the little info you've given me I guess we're talking about stock / warehouse / storage management?
If companies already have people doing this then you need to be able to do it better or cheaper, and look for the companies that dont have people to do it. Call up companies, get mailers made up - tell people how you can help them, that sort of thing.
For Gods sake stop going on about his spelling and the dyslexia thing is really rare some people just can't spell properly because they weren't taught their sounds at school. Just like some people aren't great with numbers some aren't good with words. Or indeed not being judgemental and having basic manners.
SKYWATCHER 03-07-2008, 12:13 good luck princess up
dont worry about people picking on you over spelling, its a shame they dont spend more time helping people and giving them advice,
hope things work out for you
PRINCESS UP 03-07-2008, 20:28 thanks you two
