Coco79 16-06-2008, 11:12 PM I am looking for an English bull terrier for my 2 sons. After nearly a year of thinking about it! I can only afford up to £100 and the dog would have to be less than a year old. I keep searching all the rescue sites and the rest of the internet and i have decided to try on here. If you can help please email us. We are a loving family and know that having a dog is like having another child.... we can offer it a very loving home. Thanks for looking.
Strix 16-06-2008, 11:58 PM have you tried the Rain Rescue website?
or the breed rescue?
occasionally one crops up in Sheffield City Council dog pound
how old are your two sons btw?
fox20thc 17-06-2008, 12:00 AM And, have you considered a staffy or staffy x? They are desperate for homes and despite the press they are total softies who are happiest with cuddles and lots of love :)
pets@home 17-06-2008, 12:38 AM have you tried bullies in need ?

slackmamf 17-06-2008, 01:39 PM hi, sent you a pm of a link to a free english bull terrier with exc pedigree and champion background
vikki 17-06-2008, 03:01 PM im not being nasty but i really wonder why they are giving a free EBT with EXC ped and champion background away for free :suspect: i would really ask alot of questions.
soryy before hand if it is genuine it just sounds too good to be true.
slackmamf 17-06-2008, 03:05 PM http://sheffield.gumtree.com/sheffield/07/24388807.html ,,,check it out for yourself,,i was trying to help!!!!!!!!!
vikki 17-06-2008, 03:21 PM i wasnt saying you werent but it does just seem very odd that they paid over £1400 for them and want them o go away for free to ensure a good home:loopy:
Moonbird 17-06-2008, 03:50 PM i wasnt saying you werent but it does just seem very odd that they paid over £1400 for them and want them o go away for free to ensure a good home:loopy:
I have to agree with you Vikki, it does seem strange, and to make so much of their pedigree as well...its begging for someone to take them for breeding or selling on......so one has to presume that they are either very naive or that there is something that they aren't saying, Proceed with great caution!
Slackmamf of course you were only trying to help, no one thinks any different, in fact I take my hat off to you finding the OP free dogs, I shall be contacting you when/if I ever want one in the future :D
Strix 17-06-2008, 04:40 PM most champ owning breeders take back their own pups no matter how old
does it say in the ad what the dog's 'lines' are? does the breeder know 'their' dog is being passed on in this fashion?
there are some people who think pets shouldn't change hands for money anyway - but they don't tend to be the sort who fork out for a champ pedigree in the first place!
vikki 17-06-2008, 04:49 PM my cousin breeds EBT and i got mine from her for nothing but for reasons which i was aware of (she was being ganged up on) but i know she would be really upset if that was one of her pups that someone has bought passing it on for free. she takes all her pups/dogs back if peopel cant cope she also takes in other dogs that people can handle from other breeders.
slackmamf 17-06-2008, 05:06 PM so sorry coco79,,seems i have created a mass discussion on your thread,,, ,,seems people on this forum cant refrain themselves from passing judgement on possibly innocent people
Strix 17-06-2008, 05:11 PM any person purchasing a dog should be very wary of a number of popular scams - in much the same way as buying double glazing
slackmamf 17-06-2008, 05:25 PM i agree but do you need to judge every person that is offering or wanting an animal for free,,we/they are not all bad,,,,situations change,,even some of the most loved pets have to go at some point due to changes in circumstances but if a good home is more important to the owners instead of making money, is that so bad!!!!
kimba 17-06-2008, 05:30 PM hi coco 79
i would try bullies in need,i just got my ebt from there and he is only 15 months :)
i cant believe how many english bull terriers need homes it is trully sad.
good luck and i hope you find the right one for you and your family.
sarah.
Strix 17-06-2008, 05:32 PM I'm not being judgemental - I'm being observational
If you hadn't noticed I'm all for dogs going to loving new homes, but when breeders are doing their utmost to ensure life long welfare of their animals I believe they should be supported. Once a dog is sold via the small ads it's pretty much 'lost'
one forumer rehomed her dog via the forum but was upset that it was passed on again after that - so didn't go to the loving home she had envisaged. Traceability and responsible breeding are a soap box of mine - but I do recognise that once in a while circumstances aren't perfect or don't fit the norm
Please don't waste your energy berating those who do actually care and work at looking after those dogs nobody else cares about - 'waste' it on making a difference ;)
Coco79 17-06-2008, 08:27 PM My sons are 8 and 10, the bullies had gone to a good home together, which was good because i only wanted one... being a first time dog owner. I must say though it is strange that someone would give away dogs that are worth over £1000. I have searched the whole of the Internet and for young EBT's they fetch anything from £400 to £800. Oh well i'l have to keep looking. I'l keep trying the rescue centres but I would like a pup so that i can get them socialised to other people and animals at an early age.
helenasq 17-06-2008, 08:33 PM You would be suprised how many pups you can find in rescues at the moment. We have had 2 rescue dogs in the last 6 months, one was aged 5 months (lab staffy cross)when we got him and the other was 14 months(cavalier), there isn't really a difference in behaviour to be honest, they both behave like puppies and certainatley don't tire easily (unlike my 3 year old cavalier!!)
vikki 17-06-2008, 10:06 PM so sorry coco79,,seems i have created a mass discussion on your thread,,, ,,seems people on this forum cant refrain themselves from passing judgement on possibly innocent people
possibly innocent people i understand that i was just offering some friendly advice that it seemed stange that they had spent £1400 on thease dogs but were willing to give them away the health implications that come with EBT can be quite costly i didnt want Coco79 to go for thease dogs and them have £100's to pay in vets bills once they get the dog or have it and it be vicious and bit someone.
im sorry if i upset you i understand you were informing them but it was just a concern
Coco79 17-06-2008, 10:38 PM Have you got bullies vicky? can you give me any advice iv gone all paranoid now! iv just had a reply from someone selling his for around £100 and says it's great with kids but as iv never had a dog before i cannot understand why anyone would want to get rid of their beloved pet? Surely a dog or any animal becomes a family member once it's bought!
vikki 17-06-2008, 11:06 PM i have a bullie and a bullie cross both sat with me as i type did the person state why he was selling the bullie maybe there are work commitments etc, have a look on this website and it will tell you everything you need to know about bullies http://www.thebullterrierclub.com/
Coco79 09-07-2008, 10:48 PM Just to let everyone know iv got an English bull terrier... He is 10 months old and is excellent tempered and brill with kids. Someone answered my wanted advert. The breeder said that he pulls really bad on the lead and makes his paws bleed. He as stopped pullling since we got a harness but his paws are really poorly. I have been bathing them in salt water and applying some special dog antiseptic cream, I have decided not to take him on long walks until they heel. I hope they heel quick as I want to get him into a routine.
Lotti 09-07-2008, 11:34 PM Congratulations :)
Can you possibly get him doing some limited walks on grass? He will settle in better if he's well exercised but obviously if this is not possible you'll have to work with what you've got (you can get booties for poorly feet too!)
Good luck getting his feet sorted and congratulations on your bully.
Strix 09-07-2008, 11:38 PM congratulations on your new addition to the family :)
A substance a breeder I know uses is Aloe Vera Gel. She uses the pure sort direct from the plant, but it can be bought in a tube from Holland and Barrett too. Apparently it's great for all kinds of skin complaints and lacerations
I know you can use surgical spirit to toughen up human feet, so you could ask your vet if it's safe to use on pets too (don't assume. We don't lick our feet ;) )
vikki 09-07-2008, 11:39 PM congratulaitons you will never go back now bullies have this weird daft way off sucking you in!!!!
dont forget to post some piccies.
i would try some booties for him otherwise you may have him bouncing off the walls.
Strix 09-07-2008, 11:51 PM I think CCC do those (near brammall lane)
Coco79 10-07-2008, 10:28 AM Thanks for the advice, I will take him in the car to some grass so he dosen't have to walk on the pavement and I will get some advice about toughening up his feet. He was really excited about going for walks when he first came the other day, But now he just stands still and I have to carry him to the bottom of the garden. You can see in his face that he wants to go out but he's hurting and limping a bit. I will see how we get on over the weekend and with a bit of rest and tlc his paws hopefully will be like new. If not it will be a visit to the vet. He should be ok at the vet i hope? On the first night we got him, we bathed him and he loved it! He just stood there loving it and even let me blow him with the hairdryer lol
