Selhurst Park is a dump as it the surrounding area.
I'd recommend staying somewhere like the Thistle Hotel, Tower Bridge and getting the over ground from London Bridge down to Croydon, it makes much more sense to spend your 2 nights in central London rather than the hell hole that is Croydon.
You might as well booze round the Embankment, Covent Gdn, Soho, Leicester Sq and Green Park areas and make a reight weekend of it.
If you want a half decent hotel at a half decent price go onto lastminute.com and book a mystery 4* hotel in the Green Pk area, you can't go wrong for about £79 per room per night.
We usually just get a Travel Inn in centre of town for somewhere about £70 to £80 per room per night.
Wouldn't think of staying in Croydon, stay in town and get train like Stockers says. Know a pub in Camden that will open at whatever time you want it to if you feel you need an early start on Saturday
Stockers 17-06-2008, 15:18 You could always go boozing on Upper St, Islington, plenty of places to get something to eat as well as loads of boozers plus the Medicine Bar is open 24hrs.
Like Dot days Camden is always a pretty interesting place to visit.

cheers mate but i know londons drinking haunts pretty well. i was looking at a few sites last night and tower bridge looks good at 85 quid for a double per night (were taking the women) done croydon and palace about 10 times so know its crap. drank round covent garden before the game at arsenal other year so fancy doing that saturday night. and would like to see how soho as changed friday night hav'nt been round there since the late 80's. i'll have a nosey at that lastminute.com. cheers again.

Me and my mates used to use this one (http://www.superbreak.com/go/im721/hotels/county-hotel-657.htm) whenever we went to watch England. It's very central (near Euston), very cheap and clean, with a good buffet breakfast. A shared bathroom between four rooms is a bit crap and probably not for the girls if it's a mixed group. Spot on for the lads out for a drink and somewhere to put your drunken head though.

pig grandkids. would'nt be able to take them to the park they'll be off diving in and rolling around in the mud.
begging me for hand outs,(save our owls) trying to cheat on fixed odds, (see signiture) house full of black balloons and court summons from the board. and moaning to their mum that grandads chucked p*** on us.
god forbid.

We wouldn't expect the bride's father to provide anything better than bottles of the aforementioned pee - eye -double - es , for the wedding reception.
