flyer's experience of 1959 reminded me of my girlfriend Fiona, a few years later. Aged 18, and 4 feet 11 inches tall, she carried her (Irish) birth cerficate around with her so that when in pubs she could order her favourite drink - which was a pint of bitter (she was quite a girl...). She told me that she once went into a posh pub in London and ordered a pint. The (Irish) barman replied "Oi'm sorry luv - we don't serve ladies with points". Recognising his Irish accent, Fiona began a short conversation about the Old Country. It turned out that they were both from Cork, and they got on famously. Eventually the barman said "Oi'll tell ya what oi'll do - oi'll give you two halves in a point mug".
