Does anyone know if the plastics used in the cartridge is recycleable.

How about the tape itself?

I'm sure they are recycleable, that is to say, the parts have a value.
A few years ago, someone I know in Thailand was doing it, he couldn't make it pay, with wages at about £5 a day and very little in the way of health and safety, or environmental laws.
I can't really see how you would recover the individual plastics viably.
The tape itself would be the hardest to shred, it gets wrapped round the shredder blades and would probably catch fire. It would need seperating by hand as a coil, (how they did it in Thailand) or shredding small enough, say about 1cm. to allow it to be seperated from the other materials, probably by air classification, blowing the lighter stuff away from the heavier.

I think we are going to be left with a lot of these to deal with in a few years. The amount that was bought must have been phenominal and they are steadily now being cleared out. Just cant think of a re-use for them either.

The plastic case can, I think, go in the plastic recycling bin.
The tape can be pulled out and used just generally as string (twist it first?) or I saw a suggestion elsewhere on tinternet that you could crochet it into a shopping bag or similar.

Crochet's dead easy too. Much easier than knitting. Probably easier than croquet, too!

And when it rains the "ferro" part of the crocheted tape will rust and your shopping bag will turn a lovely shade of orange. :hihi:

Just for information....I was going to knit my husband a jumper out of PTFE tape (the stretchy white stuff that plumbers use) but when we priced it up it was too expensive. :D

WHY ??

One of those nights .... too much home brewed beer :hihi:.... have to find a "toy" to play with and that evening's toy was a roll of PTFE tape. Its amazing stuff and his theory was it would make an amazing waterproof jumper.

Once we costed it up I think he viewed it in how many home brew kits it would cost him and decided it was a no-goer :D

I have donated many of my old videos to my daughters secondary school and I've brought many to the school I work in,as we still have old tv's and video players, they come in handy on the last day of term.As long as the certificate for primary and junior is U.So Texas Chainsaw will be a no no then !

I had over 500 VHS video tapes to get rid of, pre recorded and blank. I tried giving them away in Loot and advertised them on the Freecycle website but nobody wanted to know. I ended up putting 50 or so in the bin every week. Such a shame, I thought some surveillance cameras still used them, apparantly not.
