View Full Version : Unofficial Sheffield Forum/Showroom Movie Group - thread 2
The next meeting of the unofficial Forum/Showroom movie group will be tomorrow, Monday 16th June: we are going to the 6.30pm showing of In Search Of A Midnight Kiss at the Showroom cinema on Paternoster Row.
I will be in the box office area at 6.20pm, holding a yellow a4 sign to help newcomers identify us.
The way it works is that we go to see a film together (at the Showroom: http://www.showroom.org.uk so often the films are a bit 'alternative'), and then we adjourn to the bar or pub to discuss the film.
New 'members' are always welcome (there is no 'membership', you just come along if you like the sound of the film we're going to see.
We arrive gradually depending on what times we finish work, so there are likely to be a few of us in the bar earlier; otherwise we meet by the box-office tills 10 minutes before the film starts.
(This is a new thread because the old thread (here (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=295502)) was getting a bit untidy.)
Hi guys,
I'm really sorry. I'm not going to be able to join you tonight in the end. I hope you enjoy the film. Please keep me posted for our next session.
Take care,
Pierre. :)
sophiec1979 16-06-2008, 16:48 oh blimming heck, ive just seen this but im still at work and theres no way id get there on time. :(
will keep my eyes peeled for the next meet though.
x
moodibloos 16-06-2008, 22:59 I just wanted to say it was nice meeting you all tonight (the sign worked perfectly) - I have a feeling this group will get bigger and even better... looking forward to the next meet in July.
sophiec1979 17-06-2008, 07:31 ... looking forward to the next meet in July.
when is the july meet so i can plan ahead?
x
Thanks, all, for a good evening yesterday.
We agreed last night that the next meeting will be on Thursday 3rd July - and that we will decide what to see when the July listings are released!
The date may be changed if there's nothing we want to see on that date.
sophiec1979 17-06-2008, 12:11 cool, ive pencilled the third in my diary for the mo.
ill keep my eyes peeled for the programme too, we normally get some dropped off at work.
x
I might come too, depending on what you see.
neeeeeeeeeek 18-06-2008, 19:10 I never even saw this thread, can I come to the next one? not been to cinema for ages!
Taaa

:D
Of course you can.
It's probably time for people to look at the Showroom website (http://www.showroom.org.uk) to choose what to see next week.
I want to see 'A Complete History Of My Sexual Failures', but it's on quite late and is followed by a Q&A, which would mean we had no discussion time at all.
Realistic options, time-wise, seem to be 'The Edge Of Love', about Dylan Thomas, or 'Let's Get Lost', about Chet Baker. Or changing the date of the meet. Or something I haven't thought of.
Preferences, anyone?
sophiec1979 25-06-2008, 11:42 I want to see 'A Complete History Of My Sexual Failures', but it's on quite late and is followed by a Q&A, which would mean we had no discussion time at all.
id like to see that too- although maybe we could skip the Q&A and just go and have our own discussion?
i would also like to see female agents- im a sucker for subtitles!
x
They're both on a bit later than our usual: 'A Complete History Of My Sexual Failures' would finish at about 9.50pm (but I do really want to see it!); 'Female Agents' would finish at 10.30pm. What does everyone else think?
moodibloos 27-06-2008, 15:37 I was wondering why I wasnt getting any notifications on this thread then reaslised I opted for "no notifications" .. anyway amended now.
I wouldnt mind seeing "A Complete History..." looks good fun too and could be interesting to discuss.
moodibloos 27-06-2008, 15:41 shlg, iv pm'd you.
Any other opinions, anyone?
Well, I think A Complete History sounds fun and although it's on lateish, it's better for discussion time than Female Agents on 3rd July.
I think that settles it.
We will see 'A Complete History Of My Sexual Failures' this Thursday, 3rd July, at 8.15pm, at the Showroom.
I, for one, will be in the bar from about 7.30pm. At 8.05 I will be in the box-office area, clutching a yellow sign that says who we are.
Hope to see lots of you there.
sophiec1979 01-07-2008, 12:11 We will see 'A Complete History Of My Sexual Failures' this Thursday, 3rd July, at 8.15pm, at the Showroom.
super duper- is it worth booking seats on line for this rather than just turning up on the night?
x
super duper- is it worth booking seats on line for this rather than just turning up on the night?
That might be a good idea, as it's a special event. It'd be too difficult to co-ordinate booking en mass, though, so we should each sort ourselves out.
shell_xx 06-07-2008, 19:50 hello! how often do you guys meet? ive just finished doing film studies at uni and would love to join and start coming along with you guys! when would be the next meet? x
Once a month, ish... but a meet can be arranged whenever there's something people want to see.
There are no rules!
shell_xx 07-07-2008, 17:56 hehe wow no rules sounds good! well i would love to come to the next meet so keep me posted!
Ms Contrary 09-07-2008, 17:20 Sorry I missed the last one. Did you arrange another meeting?
Sorry I missed the last one. Did you arrange another meeting?
We haven't arranged another meeting yet - we said we'd all look out for if there was something we wanted to see, and then arrange it on this thread.
Hi,
I'm instreseted in joining in your film club. Please keep me posted when you next go.
Thanks:)
red_hearts 21-07-2008, 13:27 I hope to join you on one of the meets.
I'd like to come along next time too if that's OK! Sounds fun
Does anyone want to suggest a film to see, and when to see it? The Showroom listings are here (http://www.showroom.org.uk/cinema/screening_times.html) - just from a quick glance, 'Married Life' and 'Elegy' both look interesting to me.
Edited to say: Unusually, my diary is currently empty every weekday evening next week! (week beginning 28th)
Elegy & Married Life both sound good- although don't seem to start showing before 4th Aug.
Next week's showings-I like the sound of Summer Hours. Anyone else?
thomaspaine 30-07-2008, 10:50 i love the showroom cinema , seen many a great film there , i wont go to other cinemas , i love the fact it is an independent cinema , great bar also, how do i join this group
You don't have to 'join' as such - just come along when a meet is organised. If anyone organises one.... (sorry folks, I'll come to a meet but can't take responsibility for organising one at the moment).
red_hearts 31-07-2008, 11:41 Married life is showing every day next week from August 1st, and Elegy is showing for a week beggining Friday 8th.
Would be quite happy to see either of these films. Unable to meet Tuesday or Wednesday evenings.
What is everyone else's availability for next week/ the following week, and are we all agreed on seeing either of the two films that have been suggested?
Full listings for Showroom cinema http://www.showroom.org.uk/cinema/filminformation.html.
If people are on facebook, we could create a group there that people could join as the thread seems to get lost amongst the other similar threads.
I'm happy with any film, but could only do Monday or Tuesday next week. The following week I could do Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
To save this thread being lost but keep it on the Forum, we could ask for it to be moved to the Film bit in 'Special Interests', and made sticky.
In fact, I will do so now and then pm those who've contributed to let them know.
It took me a while to find this thread now that it's been moved to interests and I was browsing Activities and Sport - however forum search found it easily enough :)
Married Life and Elegy both sound good - next week Monday and Tuesday are fine with me, or any day on the week after.

Sorry, you got the the thread before I sent the messages out.... I'm sending them to everyone else now! x
Same here- both Married Life and Elegy look good. Next week I'm free Mon, Thurs. And week after Mon after 7ish, and Thurs again.
It's looking like a Monday is the best day so far? How about Married Life on 4th at the 6-ish showing? (It's on at 8-ish if that's better)
How about Married Life on 4th at the 6-ish showing? (It's on at 8-ish if that's better)
Sounds good. 6.15 gives us plenty of time to talk about the film afterwards. I think this constitutes a decision!
I'll probably go straight from work, so I'll be i the bar from about 5.45, with a yellow sign on the table to say I'm one of this group.
Sounds like we may have several newcomers - I look forward to meeting you all.

ill look forward to the next one though- thanks shlg for the pm re: the thread.

I'd love to see both films, but probably can't make Monday. I'll keep an eye on the thread in case you do Elegy the week after (hint hint!). ;)
moodibloos 01-08-2008, 16:45 I'll be joining you on Monday 4th August at 6.15pm for "Married Life".
tommytwotone 02-08-2008, 13:11 Sorry all, sounds like a great film but I've already arranged a flat viewing so won't be able to make it. May well get along and see it while it's on so I'll post my thoughts if so.
Am I allowed to get an early request in for 'Man On A Wire' for the next one, or do we reckon it'll be gone by the next time we get together?
I shall be there this evening (4th). No idea what the film is about and haven't had time to look at the showroom website, so at least have no expectations!
Am I allowed to get an early request in for 'Man On A Wire' for the next one, or do we reckon it'll be gone by the next time we get together?
I'd like too see that too, and it's still on next week (times tbc). There aren't any rules about frequency of meets: if we want to see it, we can go and see it.
I'm free Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week (11th-13th).
Anyone else up for it? Assuming it's on at a sensible time.
thomaspaine 04-08-2008, 09:13 love to be there , but i will be in spain for a couple of weeks
red_hearts 05-08-2008, 05:48 Cheers for a nice evening. Look forward to the next one :)
Yes, thanks to all for a good evening.
We tentatively decided that the next one will be Man on Wire next Tuesday (12th) - depending on what time it's showing.
Tom, as you've requested the film, is that day OK for you? It seems only to be on for a week, and Tuesday was the only day that suited everyone who was there last night.
It looks like the times for Man on Wire next week have been added to the Showroom website - on Tuesday it's on at 6.30.
Sounds ideal.
Grr! Now I can't go on Tuesday: I have to go to a meeting. The meeting should be over by the time the film's finished though, so I might go and see it on my own on Monday, and then come and discuss it will you on Tuesday.
tommytwotone 06-08-2008, 20:06 I'm good for Tuesday at half six if that's what everyone else is doing - sounds like a plan!
moodibloos 06-08-2008, 20:10 I could do Tuesday 6.30pm (Man on Wire) too.
I will definitely be along for the discussion after my meeting. I believe code13 and serenachic intend to come too.
You believe correctly re code13.
I have had it confirmed this evening that I believe correctly re. serenachic, too.
I'll be coming along on Tuesday too
Having only just joined the forum I've just found this group.
Would like to take the opportunity to come along on Tuesday as well.
red_hearts 11-08-2008, 11:45 Unfortunately cannot make this one as it clashes with badminton, but hopefully see you at the next one.

Great - will be good to see you.
tommytwotone 11-08-2008, 18:43 Hi all, looking forward to tomorrow night - as shlg will be joining us after the film shall I nominate myself to be on "sign duty"?
I'll be in the bar from about 5.30 onwards - see you there!
moodibloos 12-08-2008, 15:44 I'm unable to make it tonight now... enjoy the film everyone - see you at the next one.
BohemianRose 13-08-2008, 19:33 Hello :-)
I'm new to the group and would be interested in attending one of your meet ups. One can never watch too many films! I was wondering when the next meet up may be?
Thanks,
Shell
Hi guys
Once again enjoyed Man On Wire the other evening and enjoyed meeting those who were there.
Has anyone got plans / preferences for the next one?
Owen.
tommytwotone 14-08-2008, 08:05 As I was the one who suggested MOW I'm happy for someone else to throw a suggestion in Somers Town? The Wackness?? ;)
Timewise, I'm away the week after bank holiday so the first week of Sept would be best for me. According to the Showroom site it should still be on then, though it still says TBC for times.
First week of September is good for me too - but I'm only free on the Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. (And, using my special psychic powers, I can tell you that Code13, Maels and Ms Contrary are all unavailable that Wednesday).
I'm happy to see anything - my favourite options of the ones already listed for that week would be Angel, Ben X and Somers Town.
The Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of that week all look possible for me at the moment.
Somers Town, The Wackness and Ben X all sound good.
Monday, Tuesday or Thursday of that week would be fine with me.
And I'd be happy to see any film out of Somers Town, Angel or Ben X.
Shall we say Monday 1st September, then, before we all start getting booked up with other things?
The films in common, in people's preferences, are Somers Town and Ben X: does anyone have a preference between these? Ben X is on at 6.20 and Somers Town at... time tbc.
Hi, Sorry I missed the film nights. I can make it for the next one, Monday 1st September 2008. Please keep me posted with the details.
Cheers
See you all soon.
Apparently Somers Town is only 70 minutes long. So even an 8pm showing or whatever would still leave us time for a discusson. I have no idea what Ben X is about but am happy to go with the flow (I know I could look up imdb but my online time is very limited these days).
tommytwotone 19-08-2008, 07:28 Hi all, I'm good for the 1st - don't mind what we're seeing. See you all there!
From the Showroom website (where they still don't give times for Somers Town):
Ben X
15
Dir Nic Balthazar, Belgium, Netherlands 2007, 1hr 33mins, Subtitled
Ben, a teenaged autistic boy, is getting bullied at school. As an escape from his day-to-day trauma, he retreats into the world of his favourite online role playing game to find solutions to his problems. But when he befriends Scarlite in his virtual world, and she appears in the real one, they concoct an ultimate revenge. Apparently in line for an English language remake, Balthazar has made a vivid, shocking film about online and actual bullying, where fact and fantasy meet head-on.
Somers Town
12A
Dir. Shane Meadows | 2008 | UK | 1hr 11mins
Shane Meadows brings back Thomas Turgoose (the star of last year’s hit This Is England) in this tale of a lad from Nottingham who runs away to London and befriends Marek, the son of a Polish construction worker. Shot in black and white and DV, the young leads are excellent: Meadows has many points to raise about community, outsiders, and being on the edge of adulthood, but as usual makes them with gentle humour and a good deal of humanity. Winner of the Michael Powell Award for Best New British Feature Film at this year’s Edinburgh Film Festival.
The screening times for Somers Town have finally been updated on the Showroom website - on Monday the 1st it's on at 6.50.
So, are we going to see it or Ben X at 6.20? I can't decide which one I'd prefer to see.
I don't mind which we see - I'll be away from tomorrow morning until Sunday night, so I'll just check here on Monday morning, and see you all ten minutes before whatever it is.
Well, I can recommend Somers Town, after last night's Cineworld meet. Short but sweet! The leads are good - particularly Thomas Turgoose, and it had quite a natural, non-scripted feel to it. Lots of humour in it too.
serenachic 30-08-2008, 21:24 Phew, I found you! I am happy with any of the suggestions but am also planning to go to the cinema tomorrow as well so trying to work out what to see. Sounds like Somers Town or Ben X are the most likely candidates so maybe I'll see Angel. Really looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday.
As it looks like no one has a strong preference either way, shall we say Somers Town for tomorrow night as it seems to be on its last week?
:huh:I thought we had decided on Ben X. Which I went to see this afternoon as I won't be able to make the 6.20 showing tomorrow but was going to come along for the discussion!
Oops, I thought we were still undecided  Well, I think that settles it, Ben X at 6.20 tomorrow.
See y'all this evening. I'll bring the scruffy yellow sign, but tommytwotone, if you read this and can bring the professional-looking sign, that'd be even better.
I imagine I'll be in the bar for a bit before the film.
tommytwotone 01-09-2008, 10:01 No probs, I'll get on the case and do another sign!
See y'all this eve - I'll probably be there a bit before too. Looking forward to it.
If anyone's interested, it seems that Ben X is one of the films viewers can vote for in the European film awards (http://www.peopleschoiceaward.org/voting/list).
And we decided on Monday that our next film will be I've Loved You So Long on Monday 29 September at 5.55.
The Showroom are putting on classic films every month now. Citizen Kane and Night of the Hunter this month.
Hi everyone, I'd like to join your group and come to meets how do I join to get notifications of when they are? I particularly like foreign films. :)
Hi everyone, I'd like to join your group and come to meets how do I join to get notifications of when they are?
We post the dates and times on this thread. You're very welcome to join us for our next film on 29 September at 5.55, to see I've Loved You So Long - we will be meeting by the box office tills about ten minutes before the film starts.
Oh I'd really like to see that but I'm busy that Monday, I'll try and catch it another time. Will keep checking and will suggest meets too from time to time, thank you!
I'll be there on Monday, like the sound of this film. I came a couple of months ago but haven't been able to make any of your other meets
Diana

I remember you :)
Glad you'll be coming along again.
thomaspaine 26-09-2008, 16:04 think i might try and get to this one , i may have a quick pint first though
Hi,
I've been looking at this thread for a while but never been able to make any of the dates, but I will be there tomorrow. I will meet you by the box office at 5.45.
Cheers,
Catherine
tommytwotone 29-09-2008, 12:55 Hi all, I'll be there as usual - will be having a quick bite to eat beforehand in the bar so see any early arrivers there. I've got a pink and blue stripey shirt on today, should be fairly easy to spot!
Was nice to see those who made it last night. Sīan; sorry, I interpreted 'I'll catch up with you later' as 'in a few minutes', rather than 'at a later date'.
We have agreed that the next meet will be on Tues 28th October for the 6.30pm showing of Pulse (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0286751/) (a.k.a. Kairo) at the Showroom.
I don't usually do horror, so this might be an interesting experience....
Sorry shlg it must have looked so odd for me to do that, I thought you were all leaving anyway - after all of that my sister only wanted to talk for 5 mins! Shame I missed the discussion cos it was such a powerful film. I'm certainly going to come along again (not sure about the next one as I may have visitors but if I'm able I shall come along and risk a horror film (not my usual choice either)
Nice to meet you all :)
josh_sheff 26-10-2008, 19:46 Would anyone fancy going to the Showroom on a friday sometime as the films are only £2 for members (from next month it will be £2.50 though). Or maybe on a Wednesday so you could use the 2-4-1 with Orange (i'm not that stinge really!).
For those put off by "horror" my impression is that Pulse is more of a ghosty film than a slasher flick.
For those put off by "horror" my impression is that Pulse is more of a ghosty film than a slasher flick.
I think I'm actually more scared of the ghosty type than what-you-see-is-what-you-get gore. I'm going to give it a miss this time (not just because I'm a wimp: it's a very busy week), but I'll be along for whatever the next film is.
As a someone who tends to find horror too creepy (or gory), I didn't find Pulse scary at all.
We talked about going to see Easy Virtue with Kristin Scott-Thomas and Colin Firth as our next film, on Tuesday 25th November at 6.05pm, unless someone comes up with a better idea.

Ooh, Noel Coward, great! (I only know that from googling it, by the way).
Glad last night wasn't too scary: sorry I didn't make it.
tommytwotone 29-10-2008, 09:47 Hiya, good to see you all last night...agree that the film was probably not what I was expecting from the "horror" genre.
If you're interested, here's the wikipedia entry which I thought threw a bit more light on the story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kairo_(film)
Just to say that I'm going to watch [REC] on Tues 4th, which is certainly a bit more stereotypical of the genre - gory, jumpy zombie stuff!
I'm good for whatever we decide for next viewing too.
Hmmm the link you posted seems to tell us that there is no article on Kairo! Perhaps it was taken down after you viewed it. I found the film quite creepy, but the plot hard to follow.
tommytwotone 29-10-2008, 15:24 That's weird - it does that for me too, but if you search "Kairo" on wikipedia you can find it...
Agree about the narrative - I was pretty relieved to find that we all found it heavy going.
Was also relieved at the lack of red gaffer tape around my front door when I returned home!
Wikipedia actually makes Kario sound good!! I found it very hard to keep my eyes open and wasn't scared at all. I won't make it to Easy Virtue on Tuesday so I'll look out for the next one. Let me know if I should go and see it another night.
tommytwotone 25-11-2008, 10:37 I know - I'm staying well out of the film choosing after pumping for Kairo!
I went to see [Rec] a couple of weeks back - now that is scary...gory, jumpy Spanish zombie action!
See y'all tonight.
I went to see [Rec] a couple of weeks back - now that is scary...gory, jumpy Spanish zombie action!
I'll know to avoid that, then. :)
See you tonight.
I had a good time last night; thanks.
Next meeting is to see Rivals (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0942379/) at 6.15pm on Wednesday 17th December.
Just a reminder that the next meet is this Wednesday. Newcomers welcome. I'll be in the bar from about 5pm; otherwise, we meet by the box office about 10 minutes before the film.
tommytwotone 15-12-2008, 16:18 Apologies one and all - I'd mistakenly got this in my diary as Thurs and have therefore double booked myself....d'oh!
Sorry I can't make it, look forward to seeing what you made of it and I'll see you all in Jan.
Tom
Rivals was pretty depressing - and if I had read a bit more about it beforehand (like going on imdb and reading the plot summary...) I think I would've been a little less confused about what I perceived as Gabriel's change from an ordinary man who's been to prison to a master criminal. And I think it might have been worthwhile to stop to think why they chose "Rivals" as the English title - but this didn't occur to me until now.
As it was only two of us tonight, we didn't make any decisions about the next film but looking at the January programme (which doesn't appear to be online yet), both shlg and I said we'd like to see Milk (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1013753/) but other suggestions for January films are welcome, as are suggestions for what date would suit people best :)
I think it might have been worthwhile to stop to think why they chose "Rivals" as the English title - but this didn't occur to me until now.
I was wondering about that on the way home, too: the only explanation I could think of was that 'Blood Ties', which would have been the most obvious translation of the French title, 'Les Liens Du Sang', is already in use for a TV series and could have caused confusion.
That still doesn't explain why they picked 'Rivals', specifically, though.
I am happy with Milk. Can we firm up on a date?
Mon 26th, Wed 28th or Thurs 29th January would suit me: how about anyone else? It's on at 6.05pm on those days.
All of those dates would be fine with me :)
code13's asked me to say that Weds 28th would be best for him, so unless anyone speaks up today, shall we fix it for then?
Should anyone want to depress themselves they can watch former film group choice "Garage" on Film4 tonight at around 11pm. It has been labelled a "slapstick tragedy".
tommytwotone 08-01-2009, 11:24 Hi all, back at work after a nice long Xmas break...hope you all had a good one!
28th is fine for me, see you all there...
OK, I think that's fixed, then. We're going to see Milk (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1013753/) at 6.05pm on Wednesday 28th January at the Showroom, meeting at 5.55pm by the box office.
Newcomers always welcome, as are people who've been before and drifted away!
I'd like to join you on wed to see Milk, it will be my first time but really like the idea of joining with an informal type film group-and do like the Showroom
It'd be great to see you there, Suzanna. We'll be hanging around the box office at about 5.55pm. I'm a woman with short, red, curlyish hair.
purdyamos 28-01-2009, 22:57 I thought Milk was great, and Sean Penn was a revelation. I totally forgot who he was, if that makes sense. Wonderfully vivid but not OTT on the flamboyance. Despite the tragic end it's an inspiring story. I am now watching The Times of Harvey Milk on youtube, the Oscar wining doc from 1984. It's eerie having just seen the same scenes re-enacted. And yes, it turns out he really did record an if-I'm-assassinated tape. Hearing him say the words we've just heard, for real, is very moving.
soundgeek 31-01-2009, 13:56 Hope you don't mind me chiming in? Changing the film subject completely, I saw Revolutionary Road at the Showroom this week. More like a play really, sometimes quite pinteresque. It really had my attention all the way through. Lots of ways to look at it, so plenty to discuss afterwards. Quite tragic, but with a lot of black comedy. I was particularly impressed with Kate Winslet's portrayal. Great fun! :)
Revolutionary Road was one of the films mentioned as a possible for our next meet.
anastacia 03-02-2009, 19:06 New to this site but would love to join you for the next film especially if revolution road is chosen as wanted to go and see it anyway-has a date been set yet?
I think we mentioned Wednesday 18 February but there were no times for Revolutionary Road available then. However, it looks like they've added them now - but on 18/02 it's only on at 15:20 and 20:30. The later time is a bit too late for a film that's 2 hours long if we want to have time to talk about it afterwards.
Shall we go for another film or another date?
anastacia 12-02-2009, 21:17 Vicky Cristina Barcelona starts at 8.15 and runs for 97 mins-is this a posibility?
If it suited other people, it'd actually be quite convenient for me if we moved the meeting to Monday 16th or 23rd (Wednesdays are not as good for me as they used to be) - but only if it suits the rest of you.
I note that Vicky Cristina Barcelona is on at 17.55 as well, which is more like our usual start time. There don't seem to be any showings of Revolutionary Road at times that would suit us.
I can't do Monday the 23rd but could do the 16th (however, I don't mind missing one if the 23rd suits most of you), and would be happy to see Vicky Cristina Barcelona
16th is fine for me and for code13. How about anyone else?
I don't thinkI will be able to make the 16, but generally Mondays suit me - so hope to join you all next time
Are you going to the early or late VCB? I'm planning to go to the late one so I'd meet up with you if you were going to that one.
I think it looks like we're going to the early one - and maybe sorting out another meet for quite soon because there hasn't been much notice for this one. I will be at the Showroom at 5.45 tomorrow, anyway! Hope to see some of you there.
Well, there were four of us last night, and we ranged from hating the film (code13) to loving it (serenachic) - I think maels and I were in between.
Anyone want to suggest a date and/or film for the next meet? And lobby the Showroom for good films to start between 6.30 and 7pm?
Mondays are particularly good for me, but I'm open to suggestions.
tommytwotone 17-02-2009, 20:25 Dammit!
Sorry, sorry, sorry - not quite sure how I missed it last night...rest assured I'll be at the next one!
See y'all soon,
Tom
Sorry, Tom, we did change plans at pretty short notice. Do you want to suggest a date and/or film for the next meet?
anastacia 19-02-2009, 08:56 So sorry I didnt realise the date had been firmly set for the 16th-hope to join you all next month though-will keep a better eye on the date arrangements!
soundgeek 20-02-2009, 18:30 I wonder why those who loved it, loved and vice versa? I was somewhere in between.
I don't think I would bother seeing it again, but I thought it made for a pleasant evening.
Well, the Academy has obviously been reading this thread, as two of our favourites have done very well in the Oscars: Milk won Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay, and Man On Wire won Best Documentary Feature.
Edited to add: the March Showroom programme (http://www.showroom.org.uk/documents/March2009.pdf) is out.
At a glance, I'd like to see Il Divo; Genova; Two Lovers; Age of Stupid; The Class; Franklyn; The Reader; Flame & Citron; The Exorcist ....
I don't really want to see The Exorcist.
Any thoughts, anyone?
tommytwotone 23-02-2009, 17:28 Age Of Stupid, Franklyn and The Class look good to me!
I'm busy Mon-Weds week (on a course in London), but apart from that I'm OK...
Age Of Stupid, Franklyn and The Class look good to me!
Yes, I was discussing the options with code13 last night, and he seemed to think that Genova probably wasn't your sort of film!
Me again! Code13 has asked me to vote on his behalf for Franklyn.

I think The Class, Franklyn and Flame & Citron are my March favourites...
lozzaker 04-03-2009, 12:17 Hi Guys,
The Class, Franklyn and Two Lovers are my faves for MArch. The latter two aren't showing until 27th March so maybe we could fit in more than one. How about watching The Class next Monday the 9th (its the only day I can make )Times TBC but I'm sure there'll be a showing at 6ish.
Laura.
I can't make it on Monday, and I know Code13 can't either, but we won't be offended if the rest of you go!

Apologies for not getting round to replying to this when it was relevant (it would've been another "can't make it" though). It looks like The Class is only on early/late over the next couple of weeks, so maybe we should go for something else as our next film.
Is it Monday that normally suits most of us? Next Monday, the 23rd, Age of Stupid would be on at 6.20pm and Il Divo at 6pm. I seem to remember lozzaker said something about not being able to make it on the 30th...? And out of the films previously mentioned on the thread as people's favourites for the month, Franklyn is on late on the 30th, but there's Two Lovers at 6.05pm.
Any thoughts, preferences or suggestions for other times?

Mondays are particularly good for me.
Either of these options would be fine with me: I would try to see Age of Stupid anyway, if we don't see it as a group.
Right, if no-one else is going to make a decision, I propose that we see Age of Stupid on Monday at 6.20. I'll communicate by other means with those of you with whom that's possible - I think most of us just hardly ever look at the forum now.
I think we said the next meeting wold be to see In The Loop on 20th April.
I've created a group on Facebook, now - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=70988824858&ref=mf
Are we still on for In The Loop on Monday, folks?
lozzaker 16-04-2009, 19:26 Yep, I'll be there.
Laura.
I think we had pencilled in 18th May as our next meeting. I (the artist formerly known as Code 13) will be going to the showing of Cabinet of Dr Caligari with new live score, whether tis classed as a group meet or not.

I'm happy to see that. Does that make it a group meet?
