I saw that at a festival in the autumn--it was quite interesting. But I think if I had cats, I'd be still having nightmares about one scene.

Edited: Hang on, I don't think that's quite right. There was one scene where something nasty was done to a cat, and even as a non-cat owner that had me hiding behind my hands.

Well this would be right up my street but don't know if it would appeal to others -

Dogtooth looks interesting to me. It'd have to be the Monday rather than the Wednesday for me, though, if we chose that one.

Monday would suit me better too but depends if Maels would be happy to see the film for a second time, otherwise I think we need to keep our thinking caps on.

Sorry, I somehow missed that Maels had already seen it.

I was pretty sleepy at the time, so I don't think I got much out of it--I don't mind seeing it again.

When is the next meeting for a film?

How many people normally turn up to these viewings? It obviously depends on the film as well.

I've just moved to Sheffield so am interested to coming to the next viewing.

Thanks

Any meetings for 'The Time that Remains'?

Anyone is welcome to join, probably end up going sometime in the week, next week.

They have a couple of showings of Letter from an Unknown Woman next week. Cannot recommend this film highly enough.

If you haven't seen it before and are at all interested in cinema it is a must see. To be honest it's a must see on the big screen: period. Though perhaps not if your idea of great cinema is Michael Bay.

Hi,

When will you next be going? Is it a weekly or monthly outing?
I love watching films at The Showroom and I'd like to see Robo-Geisha and Black Dynamite if anyone else is interested?

Annie.

pb63

We are next going on Monday 5th at 18.45. Roughly monthly.

shlg
06-07-2010, 13:00
In an almost unprecedented piece of forward-planning, those of us who came along to the movie group last night agreed on a film, a date and a time for the next meeting.
We're going to see Letters to Juliet at 6pm on Monday 26th July, at the Showroom. http://www.showroomworkstation.org.uk/letterstojuliet

Hope to see you there.

Hi

I am interested in films and chatting about them, especially over a drink! Can anyone 'join'?

Also, when you guys meet monthly, what range of films do you watch and discuss- 'alternative' or foreign movies?

shlg
21-07-2010, 14:21
Yes, anyone's welcome to join us, and you can find out what films we've seen in the past by looking back through this thread. We see a lot of 'alternative' and foreign films with the odd mainstreamish one thrown in here and there.

pb63
06-09-2010, 18:33
I would be happy to see either the Runaways or the Illusionist on Thurs 16th Sept. Any other suggestions?

shlg
06-09-2010, 18:41
I'd be happy to see either; I may or may not be able to come, depending on what time a sofa arrives and urgently needs assembling!

pb63
16-09-2010, 10:31
To avoid ambiguity, as there has been no real take up on this, we will not be having a meet on 16th September. Suggestions welcome for next meet.

Maels
16-09-2010, 12:36
Well, there's The Winter's Bone at a sensible time next week (I've seen the trailer twice and it looks intriguing, although I did feel I'd get more out of it if there were subtitles...). And there's the Spanish Foreign-language Oscar winner at a sensible time the following week--I have no idea if it's any good but I wouldn't mind seeing it.

pb63
18-09-2010, 15:46
Following "soundings" our next meeting will be 6.30 on Thursday 23rd Sept for Winter's Bone.

Hi everyone. I just wanted to let you know that, if any of you are interested in making as well as watching films, there's a free workshop running in Sheffield on the 1st October. If you go to that you get the chance to make a short for free with professional support. The scheme's funded by Screen Yorkshire. You have to apply at the Bradford City of Film site... the deadline is this Friday 24th Sept!

I've seen the trailer and bizarre is certainly a word for it! (was also strange to hear Finnish) But as options at sensible times are pretty limited, I'd be up for it but I can only do the 20th.

Maels
02-07-2011, 07:30
Yes, I wouldn't mind seeing either, but the Consiprator times are stupid, and Beginners on the Tuesday (26th) is only on at 4pm and 8.20pm, which are not very good either, so I don't know. Tree of Life trailer looked fairly interesting, but it's on at stupid times as well.

According to the online programme (linked above), it is the Monday where there is no 6.20 showing and there is one on Tuesday 26th. Maybe the printed programme is different?

No, you're right. The printed programme agrees with you, but if you go on the website and check what's on by clicking the date on the calendar, there's no 6.20 screening on the 26th.

Not sure why you felt you needed to shout  Anyway, the core of this group these days is me and pb63, and I'm the younger of us in my 30s. If you (or anyone else looking at this thread :)) feel like coming along to check out if we're not too young/old for you, we're seeing The Artist on Wednesday 11/01 at 18:35 and having a chat about it afterwards
