Lets hope she receives the honour from the Queen.
When my father got his CBE (services to Higher Education ) the Queen was on an " Official Tour " to South Africa so it was left to Princess Ann to dish them out.

Congratulations, Foxy!!!

Receiving an MBE is a huge honour. My cousin received her MBE for services performed whilst in the Armed Forces, and know how wonderfully proud all your friends and family are.

I vividly recall that day, and how the people of Sheffield pulled out all the stops to help complete strangers......and those of us unable to help physically were passing on information and supporting others. During and after the event, Foxy, you were a pillar of strength to those in Winn Gardens from what I saw on here.

You deserve it, hun xxx

SheShe if you ain't wearing a bonnet, you'll be the only lady there who isn't! I saw the DVD and photos of my cousin's day at the Palace receiving her "Gong" from Prince Charles, and there was a stunning range of various sizes, colours and cost. Get yer sen down T J Hughes and pick out a good 'un!

SheShe

You're gonna look fabulous!

The trick when buying a titfer is to take someone you trust with you who can offer an honest opinion, and don't be afraid to ask a member of staff for advice. Also, make sure you know what colour frock you're wearing before you start looking, unless you're gonna buy a new one. You could take the frock with you in a bag so you can check the colours match too!

Sometimes knowing how you're going to wear your hair can prejudice your hat choice.

I really wish I could've been there to see my cousin receive her MBE, but the number of guests were limited or else we'd have ALL charged down the M1! :hihi:

I can only wear my hair one way and there's not a lot of it to hold a hat up.
We think this will be sometime in november so haven't thought that far yet.
She's allowed 3 guests.

Us common? We the people of this fair city are NOT common, we are all fabulous (well most of us) and without getting all gooey, without the help of all the forummers last June, a lot of the help during the 'event' would not have happened.

I still have the memory of Swan-Vesta in rubber gloves clearing out crap from gardens etched on my brain.. and he was fabulous for it!

The information you're looking for is readily available in the thread; the MBE is for the voluntary work Fox did helping her community through the flooding last year (despite being flooded out herself).

Well done Foxy! Congratulations, you deserve it.

I have always slightly regretted my mums socialist principles as when she received a letter asking her if she would accept an invitiation to the palace (you are not allowed to refuse the actual invitation as it is an order, so they ask if you would accept it first before sending it) she said she wouldn't accept :(

The information you're looking for is readily available in the thread; the MBE is for the voluntary work Fox did helping her community through the flooding last year (despite being flooded out herself).

Yes but what did she do?, I rode my bike all around delivering food and blankets to family and friends who were stuck in traffic and flowing water for hours . I travelled through some of the fastest waters and risked my life to help others.
I waded through water neck deep to carry 3 school kids (1 at a time)who were stuck down wooleywood bottom bridge, and I never asked anyone for money to repair my bike when it got flooded.
But then again if you ask enough people to give money to those who didnt have insurance you are sure to get an MBE

Kurgon
30-06-2008, 22:08
Well done.

Now, I'll ask a question a few others have to no avail.

What did you do to be awarded this?

She begged and begged for those on Win gardens who would rather buy a big TV than go out to work and pay for house insurance:loopy:

Joanl
01-07-2008, 15:14
Insurance is not always that easy to get to be honest. We moved into a new build a year ago, but because its a new post code it hasn't got onto everybody's system yet....so that causes a problem.
Another problem is they ask what the construction of the roof is even though it's only content cover we were looking for.....I don't know.
Anyway, most people come across as thinking Foxy's award was well deserved and how nice to see an ordinary person getting recognition for helping fellow human beings and not a pop star or footballer or someone that's getting a damn good payout anyway.

fox20thc
01-07-2008, 15:34
Might I just add:

Contrary to the report in the local press regarding the award. It was NOT for work done as a result of the floods last year.

The citation says: For services to the Sheffield Community end of, yes I did help out during the floods but any recognition was not as a direct result of it, but also for voluntary work I have done over a number of years.

Anyway, I'd hate for this to become a nasty tit for tat thread so thanks to all those kinds well wishers :) I'll ask that it be closed now.
