I have been for a check up today with the midwife and she says i am 3/5ths engaged! I am already high risk for a prem baby as i have had one before and i also have been getting cramps today.
She says i dont need to worry too much but should try to "hang on" to it for at least another 2 weeks!

Has anyone else been engaged by this much and still gone full term?

she says its a big baby so i think i would like to go a bit early but this is too early and i have nothing done :(

Packing hospital bag this evening just incase .

It seems to me I've heard many women say they are this or that much engaged and still bimble on for a few weeks, so I don't think it necessarily means anything?
Being high risk for premature labour is another thing altogether, though. I don't know what to say cos it still seems like it could go either way and I'm no expert...but I'll keep my fingers crossed for another couple of weeks baking at least.

Good luck xx

i have been googling and most of the results came up that when they got to my stage they went for a week or 2 after! I not too worried about the baby cause of its size but i was leaving most of the preparations until i went on mat leave in 2 weeks, i can still go to work but just have to take it a bit easier!

my mum has decided she coming over tomorrow to sort everyting out for me and if i have plans i have just to go out and she will let herself in :hihi::hihi:

i also had 2 positive results for glucose in my sample today but i had to admit redfaced to the midwife i had half a cheescake last night:roll: so she going to have a check in 2 weeks to see if i still same:D

Hi, I know this was later on in my pregnancy than you are now, but at 37 weeks I was also this much enagaged and my baby had to be induced at 2 weeks over. So that was 5 weeks after and apparently when they examined me they said he certainly wasn't imminent if I didn't go ahead with being induced. So possibly you will just stay this much engaged for a good few weeks.

Good luck x

Your mean telling me that :( :hihi: i cant cope with this discomfort for another 7 weeks!

The midwife said because its my 2nd they dont engage like this until right before the birth, she laso said they sometime pop in and out of the pelvis but she does not see that happening as its so far gone :(

I have been having cramps throughout the night and this morning so i am going to call them in a while, sounds awful but i cant be bothered going up to the hospital to sit for hours to be told i being daft and sent home!

I was 4/5ths engaged at 34 weeks and had to be induced at 2 weeks over with my first the midwife kept telling me i would go early, i was the unluckiest person i had a show a week before that as well, With my 2nd i wasn't engaged until end stage labour. I'm not sure it makes a difference, sorry. I know what its like to get your hopes up that you'll go early.

well thats what the midwife told me was normal to not engage until labour was imminent or later, heres hoping its just working it way down and going to sit there for a couple of weeks at least :D

I was 4/5 engaged at 34 weeks with my third, My midwife kept telling me i would not go to 40 weeks. At 41+3 weeks my beautiful baby boy arrived!!! Just goes to show that a baby will only come when it's ready!!

like peaches, claire 1983& lola2 I was also very far engaged very early on & had loads of cramps & a big baby in there. I felt like my baby was just going to drop out any minute! And I was 10 days overdue.......although I didnt have the other risk factors you mentioned so might be worth keeping an eye out but try to not to worry overly (like that any use, people always say that to you dont they!) ;-)

now you all got me worried that its going to have to be evicted rather than early:hihi::hihi:

well all has quietened down, still getting the hicks but the cramps have gone! I do have a little bit of what seems like waters but not sure and leaving it till normal daycare tomorrow before i go in to have it checked cause not going to sit for hours waiting to see someone!
dont think i have helped myself tonight by playing the boxing on the Wii! I was not going to but the temptation to knock the OH out was too much, i beat him 3 times:hihi::hihi: whos betting i go into labour in next few hours???

thanks for all your replies and i will keep you updated :D

well i have made it to the 35 weeks and its still in same place however its now OP!! mini sav was op and it hurt like hell, although i have read that the second is never as bad as the first!

midwife has told me some things to do to help shift it but as its engaged she dont think they will work:( so bring on the bad back and pressure :hihi:

Both DS2 and DS3 were OP and engaged, one stayed that way, one shifted in labour

thanks *peaches*, you giving me some hope!! I did not know mini was OP till i was in labour as they forgot to tell me so it was a bit ofa shock! they just said its more painful and longer labour but luckily i went quickly but it was really hard work. I just remember the awful pressure feeling on the bottom of my back and the pain i had for a few weeks after due to the swelling!

no your not dumb :D it means that the baby is back to back with the mother which means all the way out its skull and spine push against the mothers back therefor causeing more pain in that area and a hell lot more swelling after :(

edit to add: i takes longer too (aparently) and means the mother andbaby have to work harder to pop the little darling out !

My baby was op then! I have never heard of that before (or I may have but not listening!) He also had his head turned sideways as well (dont know how that worked)

That is why I was in stop start labour for 5 days!

OUCH! i was lucky with mini sav, she was op but i was in labour just under 3 hours. very quick but really hard going and my back was killing me the whole time. I only had gas and air but considering more this time but i will just wait and see on the day how i feel i am coping:D :D

I sort of got stuck at 9cm and ended up having an epidural (welcome rest!) I couldnt do the gas and air - didnt like it! Even with the epidural i felt the pressure in my pelvis area!

Bit of a tangent here for this thread but readers might be interested that optimum positioning can be something aimed for throughout pregnancy and there are things that will make your baby more prone to end up back to back. Likewise there are things that can be done to turn baby or to encourage baby to get into a good position before engagement.

Check out http://www.spinningbabies.com/ for more info :)

yeah midwife said its more and more nowadays due to changes in our habits, like driving or sitting on sofa watching tv:hihi::hihi:

i been told to straddle a chair watching tv, lay on my left as often as i can. go swimming front crawl if i can.

basically try not to sit back to much and slouch.

i think i too far gone to make any difference however great link and may help others
