Where are the world's worst drivers?
I think where I live in China would come somewhere near the top.
I live in quite a big city , about 6,000,000 people and although there's not a lot of traffic by British standards , it gets quite hectic near the centre and more so every day.
The driving is incredible and the pedestrians are as bad.On every journey , bus or taxi , you wonder if you'll get there in one piece. Adds to the excitement ! I travel every day to a school , by school bus , and back and I witness some heart-stopping moments.
Pedestrians simply wander into the road-----men , women and children.
Seat belts ? ---- never heard of 'em.
Zebra crossings-----what are they for ?
Lane discipline------listen if God gives you a big wide road , why only use half of it ?
Signals ?-----Babyish
Use of hooter ?-----Yeah , all the time ----got to scare the pedestrians somehow .
Overtaking on the brow of a hill-----Yeah , why not ?
Speeding ? ----Yeah , well you get there faster that way.
And so it goes on. There must be a million bicycles in the city and I can't remember seeing one with a light.
Turning left at a junction is a nightmare[ our equivalent of turning right]. Traffic hurtles towards you and you just hope that the vehicle you're in doesn't stall.
Strangely , I've never seen any major incidents and an Egyptian once explained it , when we were talking about the madness in Cairo. He said ,
" Well we're always on the look-out . We always expect the worst so we usually avoid the worst. In Britain , you always think everyone is following the rules and when they don't-----BAM."
Could be something in that , I suppose !

Give that man a cigar! Most British drivers seem to be in this 'virtual reality bubble' called a car. When they're in it the rest of the world just disappears and everyone accomodates them.

I get looked at funny because I'm an agressive driver, not to agressive like manic road rage but I'm definitely not passive. If someone's sitting being a **** then that's up to them. I think most of the driving in this country is appalling, everyone's too placid behind the wheel!

The UK has the best safety record in the world for driving in accidents per mile driven.

I've driven in many countries and the here is definately the safest. There were some countries I just plain refused to drive in for fear of killing somebody and I had a couple of near death experiences behind the wheel in Indonesia.

That said the UK roads are also the dullest....... and the most frustrating.

Crete has to be a contender, those taxi drivers are crazy, I've never been more scared for my life than being in taxis in Crete.
The drivers overtake at high speeds on sharp corners halfway up a mountain on a narrow track.
