Where are the world's worst drivers?
I think where I live in China would come somewhere near the top.
I live in quite a big city , about 6,000,000 people and although there's not a lot of traffic by British standards , it gets quite hectic near the centre and more so every day.
The driving is incredible and the pedestrians are as bad.On every journey , bus or taxi , you wonder if you'll get there in one piece. Adds to the excitement ! I travel every day to a school , by school bus , and back and I witness some heart-stopping moments.
Pedestrians simply wander into the road-----men , women and children.
Seat belts ? ---- never heard of 'em.
Zebra crossings-----what are they for ?
Lane discipline------listen if God gives you a big wide road , why only use half of it ?
Signals ?-----Babyish
Use of hooter ?-----Yeah , all the time ----got to scare the pedestrians somehow .
Overtaking on the brow of a hill-----Yeah , why not ?
Speeding ? ----Yeah , well you get there faster that way.
And so it goes on. There must be a million bicycles in the city and I can't remember seeing one with a light.
Turning left at a junction is a nightmare[ our equivalent of turning right]. Traffic hurtles towards you and you just hope that the vehicle you're in doesn't stall.
Strangely , I've never seen any major incidents and an Egyptian once explained it , when we were talking about the madness in Cairo. He said ,
" Well we're always on the look-out . We always expect the worst so we usually avoid the worst. In Britain , you always think everyone is following the rules and when they don't-----BAM."
Could be something in that , I suppose !
