hi some on here may know me and know that i love dogs.I have recently progressed into fostering dogs & also transporting them from pound to safe rescue`s , i am still continuing with my fundraising and blanket/food collections for the poundies & i have rehomed over 10 dogs myself. Now the part im dreading & also the part where i need to ask for help/opinions.Whilst some rescues will re-emburse me for my petrol i would like to be able not to accept it & leave it towards helping the poor dogs . But i`m not in a position to be able to do this for free ,so i was looking for idea`s to allow me to do it & would welcome all constructive idea`s , Doris Banham sanctuary dogsos are also looking for homes for the dogs they save (2373)last yr as they are struggling for places to keep them ,i`ll not go into details as i think i have asked enough of the kind people of Sheffield but it hurts to know we may soon have to start turning our backs on dogs that need us ,I didn`t want to turn this post into a begging or sob story ,so any help/ ideas would be most welcome . thankyou for reading. hugs & kisses to all :help::help::help:

Its not begging or sob stories, its the sad reality of the uncaring world we live in that have disposable everything including dogs and cats.
I do home checks for gsd and collie rescue and am in a similar situation re petrol costs now. Never worried before but its getting so damned expensive. I recently had to think very carefully about a home check in Barnsley which dont sound too far but I am nearer Chesterfield than Sheffield. I have three lined up next week, I love doing them as I feel I am putting something back to the breed I have loved all my life. Like you I will continue until the crunch hits me too hard... I am not working at moment due to medical probs and am on half pay which doesnt help.
If there were not people like you who will fund raise, move dogs about etc then the whole rescue situation will fail, you are doing a wonderful job, I look upon my small contribution as every little helps.
Wouldnt it be lovely if all the forum folk could set up their own kennels for rescues, give up work to look after them, tranport them etc... ah reality gets in the way!
The only thing I can think of really is car boots to raise funds and then allocate you some petrol money from it, I have tried e bay but its a bit of a waste of time really. Another site does monthly auctions to raise money for rescues, members donate articles and site members bid on them. I wonder what the rules are on here for having an auction thread with all proceeds to certian rescues??? Its a thought.
Keep your chin up and do what you can,its no good going into debt though because then you wont be able to help them at all.
Bless

I think that you should take the petrol money, really you need to be sensible, if you are struggling to meet the cost then you are causing yourself hardship and will not be able to help then anyway.
Also I think that raising funds so you can pay for petrol is the same thing, you are still taking from the rescue in a way as the funds raised could have gone to them...plus you are eating into more of your own time than you planned to do.
If you are struggling take the money, if not then thats a different matter.

I agree Moonbird- it's only fair if you're helping someone by taking their unwanted pet they should at least make a contribution - and fuel costs nowadays aint cheap. It's not denying a charity a donation - if anything, its' enabling a willing volunteer to keep doing the thing charities need most- people to help them
