I can't believe I'm writing this :(

Takara, the one dog you wouldn't want to have to take blood from needs yet more tests.

After the tests to determine the cause of her incontinence I had hoped that'd be it. She had to be knocked out even for a blood test because she just freaks out completely.

Now she appears to be coming into season. She's stroppy, clingy, trying to get comfy all the time, her vulva's swollen and she has the same rash she used to get prior to each season.
One problem - Takara was spayed last year.

I remember my mum commenting on her vulva being enlarged before Christmas (I think) as well and I recalled her acting like she did during phantoms she'd had previously but never thought much of it.

I had her spayed for behavioural reasons because seasons and phantoms hit her hard and she became aggressive with other dogs and very depressed and clingy. It was the aggression that was the main problem and I hoped having her spayed would allow me to work on it without hormones in the way.

She now has to have tests to see if some ovarian tissue was left behind and if it was, she could still be coming into season just not bleeding so not attractive to males and not able to conceive.

She just seems to have no luck at all :( I left my previous vets due to the way they treated Takara during a consultation but they also did the spay and if it turns out they did leave some tissue behind I won't be at all impressed!!

It wouldn't be an op because they'd never find a snipped off bit of ovary - she'd have to go onto hormone treatment - have to admit I was afraid she'd need more surgery but thankfully not.

I just hope that hormone treatment doesn't affect her behaviour further :(

Thats good news then, is hormone treatment expensive

I don't know yet - I asked if it would be ongoing and regular or short term and she said she didn't know until the test results come back. Her insurance will cover it this year but I think we have annual cover as opposed to lifetime (we didn't know the difference at the time) so it won't be covered next year.

Well if it is because of them not doing the spay properly that is shocking :o I think the vet should have to put it right if thats the case.
I really hope that its nothing much....poor Takara :(

Poor little soul and I totally sympathise, Josh is undergoing a series of tests at the vet and has to wear his hanabal lecter muzzle. He is like a different dog with the vet, but Colins got him sussed now and knows he is really just a big mardy sod. He will put up with the bloods being taken, its the shaving of the leg he objects to.
Its really worrying, I hope she gets well soon.

I wouldn't let her go anywhere near those vets again - and she wouldn't either. I doubt I'd even get her through the door - but if it is, I'll be complaining don't worry.

That said, I don't think it's all that rare for it to happen from what has been said

Estweyn, poor Josh, give him a cuddle from me - Takara just objects to everything. When she had the last lot of tests done she was sedated for the blood test and then had to be anaesthetised for the urine sample straight from her bladder (via a catheter) because even the sedation wasn't heavy enough.

Daft thing is, it's a hard enough job getting the sedation into her - she's a little sod.

We did some training tonight and she was a little happier for the attention but she has spent all night trying to get comfy and has even got a strop on with Eddy which is not like her :(

Oh dear, no i certainly wouldn't let the old vets near her again.. i would however make sure they fork out for any treatment if they are to blame. Hope Takara is feeling better soon.

Reading back over your posting Lottie, you say you left your previous vet over the way she was treated during a consultation. Well, I wonder about Joshs behaviour with Mr vet, he is so very loving with people, but with the vet he is really awful. We have a practice and one in particular sparks him off, he is growling even if he hears his voice. He was left with them when he was a pup and had his nuts nipped. Both my son and I have commented that his behaviour is strange with this vet in particular, I just wondered if anything bad had happened to him during his stay as a pup (apart from the obvious having no nuts when he came out!!!) Would you pm me your previous vets name, just curious???

I remember you telling me about problems with said vet, Lottie if it does turn out they botched the spay make them foot the bill for all of this treatment ..

Don't worry H.P I will... but I can't say anything til the tests come back. I just can't think what else it could be, the only thing she's not doing is bleeding, everything else says she's in season. :( If it's not that I don't know what I'll do!
