Suffragette1 12-06-2008, 08:50 PM Now, I love feisty intelligent women and am really pleased to see that there are a few on the Forum. I am also especially pleased to see the return of one in particular.
Welcome back, we need to stand up and be counted.
We are not gobby, but feisty.
Jess - come and help me out here!
Jabberwocky 12-06-2008, 08:53 PM I prefer a feisty woman to some of the walking corpses Ive known over the years. My OH is feisty and I can guarrantee that life is seldom boring.
The drawback is, I cant get away with a bloody thing!
foxforcefive 12-06-2008, 08:53 PM Will I do?
I have to agree, as much as I like talking about warm pillows and fluffy cats, I feel I ought to stick my oar in now and again.
Fibutton 12-06-2008, 08:54 PM Am only feisty when the mood takes me...and when my dander is up ooerrrrr....not nice lol :hihi::hihi::hihi:

The amount of reference's I've had today about my bloody toes. I'm beginning to feel like a freak, I assumed I wouldn't be the only one. Oh well, if nothing else at least i'm special.

foxforcefive 12-06-2008, 09:03 PM At work earlier this week, one of the bloke's I work with actually said to me 'you're quite funny for a woman'. I just smiled sweetly.

StarSparkle 12-06-2008, 09:06 PM Personally, I think to be called feisty is about the greatest compliment a woman can receive :)
StarSparkle - whose been called a feisty woman a good few times! :D

I've always found bricks to be such witty creatures.
johnbradley 12-06-2008, 09:08 PM Feisty and intelligent women are very cool. Most of the time.
Sometimes for me, when they're yapping away, it can sound like white noise. I've got quite good at tuning this out though, which again, is very cool.

Should one wear a badge with "Feisty" written on ? Or have we to take an intelligence test ? :hihi::hihi:
discodown 12-06-2008, 09:11 PM My OH is feisty and most of the time I love it. Who wants a doormat for a partner? But sometimes I wish she would just go along with what I want just so every tiny thing didn't have to be a battle
foxforcefive 12-06-2008, 09:11 PM Should one wear a badge with "Feisty" written on ? Or have we to take an intelligence test ? :hihi::hihi:
Good point Pattricia, I'd call myself feisty, not necessarily intelligent

johnbradley 12-06-2008, 09:14 PM I think you're confusing feisty with nagging.
You could be right, although its hard to separate the two sometimes:)
I googled because i'm a nob and found the following:
feisty
This is an Americanism which is gaining ground in British and Australian English. It is defined in many dictionaries as 'aggressive, excitable, nervous, touchy' but is now more often used to mean 'spirited', 'assertive', 'able to speak up for oneself' (usually applied to women)
StarSparkle 12-06-2008, 09:15 PM Should one wear a badge with "Feisty" written on ? Or have we to take an intelligence test ? :hihi::hihi:
One should do whatever one wishes if one is a feisty lady, Pattricia ;) :)

OMG! How often do I hear this???? Are you reading this monsieur :P :P :P
But he's only jealous cos I'm waaaaaaaaaaay funnier than he is :loopy:
Jessica23 12-06-2008, 09:17 PM Oh my word.
Stop, everyone.
You know my comment about small dogs earlier, having a go at johnbradley?
Well, check out this etymological definition of feisty:
1896, Amer.Eng. from feist "small dog," from fice, fist Amer.Eng. 1805 "small dog," short for fysting curre "stinking cur," attested from 1529, from M.E. fysten, fisten "break wind" (1440), related to O.E. fisting "stink." The 1811 slang dictionary defines fice as "a small windy escape backwards, more obvious to the nose than ears; frequently by old ladies charged on their lap-dogs." Cf. also Dan. fise "to blow, to fart," and obs. Eng. askefise, lit. "fire-blower, ash-blower," from an unrecorded O.N. source, used in M.E. for a kind of bellows, but orig. "a term of reproach among northern nations for an unwarlike fellow who stayed at home in the chimney corner" [O.E.D.]
and it's the OED as well, so I can't even cast aspersions on the source.
*sobs, gently*

Womerry2 12-06-2008, 09:18 PM I'd almost stopped thinking of "feisty" as a good thing, owing to the over-use of the term on the back covers of duller than average detective fiction. It seems no female sleuth is allowed to be anything but feisty.

I'm with you on this one. There are times to be "feisty" but relatively few. General feistiness smacks of general insecurity. I prefer intelligent, confident and a little understated or reserved - Capable of feisty but only when absolutely necessary.

I disagree - I'd say feistiness means you know your own mind, you think your own thoughts, you will stand up for yourself, and you will not take crap from people.
I am actually a very reserved person - I've always been shy - but that doesn't stop me being very feisty if and when the need arises.
I think the definition of "spirited and assertive" sums feisty up nicely.

Depends how you define feisty. Some people seem to think it means generally loud and argumentative, particularly over insignificant, petty little issues!:rant::rant:
I come across these people a lot.

Me too.
It's interesting to learn what people really think online.
I suppose when you are with friends, or with people you know that then you're more vocal, in a "get to know your way", but online, you don't have the basis of those relationship to back things up, and I find that people are passionate either for a title, or for unjust written words.
I used to be laidback once. The older I am, the more I see, the less tolerable of some injustice.

StarSparkle 12-06-2008, 10:02 PM :hihi:
You're so right, Bago. Well said.
Sometimes being laid-back about things is totally wrong, it means you're basically condoning what's happening and allowing it to happen by your non-intervention
It's wrong to be laid-back in the presence of injustice.

Suffragette1 12-06-2008, 10:03 PM Feisty, intelligent women? Yes please, darlings.......

Hey, welcome back. You have been missed you know. :)
Even though I don't agree with some of what you talk about. I do like reading some of your posts about social responsibility etc.
I think by now, I know what to steer clear of. The recycled issues come up again and again. I steer clear even if it is unjust. :hihi:

McLovin 12-06-2008, 10:37 PM Wouldn't the mere notion of a Feisty & Intelligent woman be classed as an Oxymoron?
Surely a woman with intelligence would rather be demure and subservient to her male companion so that she may better serve him throughout life.

arachnophobe 12-06-2008, 11:37 PM Mine is a TIP.
We are all far too busy debating matters of great importance on SF to be bothered by mere trifles like housework!
Except BF of course. He multitasks.
Suffragette1 12-06-2008, 11:38 PM ..what really saddens me is that you're five posts in front of me and you only got 2 minutes ago!
4 posts now!
BF - I love you really. It's those pearly whites. So seductive. And that laugh.:love::love:
Not that I'm competitive or anything, shudders at the prospect.

That's a masterclass in multi-tasking, peeing my pants and running at the same time :hihi:
I'm not managing either at the moment! *lies slumped in dressing gown with wet hair* :help:
I can't manage either, ever! :hihi:
And I can't even have a decent slump, 'cos cat and dog are taking up too much bloody room on the sofa :rant:

It's ok, BoyFriday has offered to do the housework for all of us! :)
As long as you take care of your own spider removal.

Don't worry it won't last, I'll be my old self again very, very soon.

Feisty, intelligent women? Yes please
Here! here! (or is it hear! hear!:suspect:) I've forgotten.:hihi:
Of all the people I've been out with, I can't remember one, that was feisty and intelligent. (unless you include the too needy ones.:loopy:)
Maybe I'm looking down the wrong avenues. :suspect: .. or the intelligent ones are too clever to fall for my meagre charms:suspect:
:hihi:
Suffragette1 13-06-2008, 08:34 AM Feisty & intelligent women rock.
Ash boy, you don't know what you're missing.

WYEXILE 13-06-2008, 09:25 AM I have a feisty intellegent woman, doesn't mean to say she doesn't have to cook, clean and iron though. She's that intelligent that she lets me go out to work while she stays at home. Deal is I don't lift a finger round the house. She's happy, I'm happy.
Not sure who has the best deal though......

Well, as a feisty woman myself, I do 90% of the cooking chez-Suffy, largely cos Mr S gets home far later than me on the days that I work. He also has a very limited repertoire. I clean on a 'need to' basis (ie whenever we have guests) and do the ironing, again cos I'm at home more than Mr S, although he does iron some times. Usually when I'm out on the lash with my friends.
horribleblob 13-06-2008, 10:56 AM Can beat that - do 100% of everything. Cooking, cleaning, shopping, diy blah blah blah! And I go to work.

As a once forum-labelled feminist, and laddette ( ), I wouldn't mind doing cooking and cleaning if someone else will bring home the bacon too. :hihi: Though he has to be a very smart man who can indeed bring home the bacon and not for me to bring home the bacon, and for him to take the liberty.
I think loving someone is doing something that you don't necessarily enjoy, but you do. It's when you take liberties and expect it that starts to kill off the relationship, and forget that you're a couple, but is someone's slave.

Exactly what cut of bacon would he need to bring home? Like rindless back bacon? Would that be every night?
Surely you don't eat that many bacon butties?
*wanders off mumbling something about chubby chicks*

Everything in moderation and nothing. Bago sounds like she gets through bacon like it's going out of fashion :o
This must be something to do with the whole feisty woman thing cos I don't get it.

Oh pluuuuuurleesssse !
How come I knew you'd also bring up the look point too? If a woman stays at home, and needs to take care of the kids, the less she is likely to feel motivated to look fantastically great for the hubby.
Actually, yes, I do go through a lot of bacon. My own!
I actually admire women who do give up careers to take care of their kids. I think it isn't an easy job, and that some go through emotional traumatic experiences on personal levels. Not having support from men who just think throwing money at the woman will solve the problem is a very old school thinking. I think there should be equal responsibility in the household these days, to at least understand what is going on if anything.

If you want to borrow it I have a wonderful book, the chapter I've just read tells you how to strangle a man with your bare thighs:D
It doesn't specify whether the thighs need to be chunky or not:suspect:
