View Full Version : Alfa Romeo driver dinted my car!
As some of you may know, I have posted before about careless stupid drivers and I am sick to death of them being on the road.
Here I am with another. I was at Marsh Lane carboot sale this morning. I left my car with loads of room either side. A couple have come and parked their RED Alfa Romeo [Registration details removed] car at the side at such a dodgy angle (abandonned) comes to mind and as the silly woman has opened the door, she has dinted my car door.
I waited for them to come back and calmly asked for their insurance details. They guy told me in no uncertain terms where to go and the woman was just as immature and unable to hold an adult conversation choosing to sware and shout. I have loads of photos of the damage and even as she opened her door again, I have a photo of it hitting my car.
I have been to the police and they are pursuiing criminal damage. Can I say to the people involved - WHY? Learn to drive and learn to park and take care of other people's possessions. It irritates me sooooooo much when I see people abandon their cars and not bother about hitting other people's cars. Am I the only one that thing idiots like that should be shot? This couple's attitude was atrocious.
mrchinnery 10-04-2005, 11:03 I wonder if they had any insurance details to give to you.
I should get their name and address from the police and sue.
I'm going to keep a note of their number plate [Reg details removed] and look out for it.
I'll PM you if I see it parked up.
They gave me their insurance details as being Direct Line and I've called them today...but I don't know if that was their details or not! I am just sooooo annoyed. That's whats the photos are for...Just beware if you see it that's all and certainly don't park at the side of it whatever you do!!!

can we see the photos ? :P
I would love to post the photos! Name and shame that's what these idiots deserve...I need to go and buy a lead from my phone to laptop and then I'll show you...neither of them were anything to look at though!!!
mrchinnery 10-04-2005, 11:26 I know just how you feel. Mine had little dents and scratches that a series of hopless people have caused over the years. If it wasn't for these people my car would be in immaculate condition.
If you are in the AA you can get them to check the repair so that it blends in well with the original, and if it doesn't then claim for another loss. Make sure that the repairers know that it must be perfect otherwise they will have to do the work all over again.
Thanks for that - I think I am in the RAC! They must do the same thing though!
if they've given you false insurance details then the police will probably be even more interested.
As it stands at the moment I'm surprised the police are investigating, as despite there apparent rudeness you did exchange details.
You could use your own insurance company to recover the damages from the 3rd party, it wouldn't mean loosing your no claims and your company can do a little work for it's money.
I had someone pull out on me in the bnq carpark in hillsborough last week. They just drove straight out of a space forwards into my wing as I was driving past... Fortunately they've admitted liability so the repairs won't cost me anything but time and inconvenience.
AJ sheffield 10-04-2005, 21:03 Didnt you ask the RAC driver who towed them away where they lived or are you trying to say the Alfa Romeo actually drove off using its own engine power. Alfas have plenty of dents of their own, usually on the boot where they have had to be pushed. The damage wouldnt bother me but the insult of having such a pile of unreliable Italian crap being the culprit would.
dragonsoup 11-04-2005, 18:34 Liose,
I have a good reason to ask this as I had problems with someone in a red alfa but not got reg. no was the guy very tall and did he and the woman have a kind of mild scouse accent?
alchresearch 11-04-2005, 18:53 Hope you manage to get justice. If the damage occurred off the road (ie on a field car park), normal car insurance doesn't always apply as it's classed as private land.

I checked this recently and policies seem to have a clause that specifically includes any private land that is normally accessible by the public, this includes car parks specifically.
OliverTheCat 12-04-2005, 11:15 Semi off-topic, a friend of ours had an Alfa 147, and it had to go back a couple of times - expensive, pile of rubbish, IMO.

I thought so too. I only mentioned it because I was on Ainsdale beach on Sunday and there is a new sign saying that you drive on the beach at your own risk and your insurance may not cover you if you have an accident or your car is washed away by the tide!

Presumably because it's not an area intended to be used by motor vehicles... I guess.
I only looked it up because someone ran into me in a car park.
I'd always thought that off the road meant that it wasn't covered. All it actually means is that the police won't be interested as the laws of the road don't apply.

Hi - The guy was not particularly tall, about 5"7...short light hair (slightly balding) - he had a southern accent, slightly stocky but not fat. As far as the women was concerned, I didn't get any hint of an accent because she was constantly shouting swearing about 5"6 strawberry blond shoulder length hair with a vile and uncontrollable temper!

They're only expensive if you buy a new one - they lose vaue that rapidly that over a year old they are pretty cheap. To be honest performance wise they are very impressive although they're not always too keen on corners.
Back on topic - unless they admit it or you have witnesses it's highly unlikely the police will be able to do anything. It's your word against theirs and the police are hardly likely to start testing paint samples over it.

on the contrary. I have a friend who touched a bumper in a car park. (I saw him do it actually), he checked for damage, found none and left the scene.
He later was contacted by his insurance and the police to say that they were considering prosecuting for a failure to report and accident and leaving the scene, and that the other party was making a claim against him for damage.
And that was without any damage actually being done!!!

Believe it or not Sefton Council use it as a car park and charge £3 for the day!
