It's a rare thing for me not to be working on a Sunday - but I have today off!

At work I fantasize about the perfect Sunday afternoon. It goes something like:
taking a walk round Endlcliffe Park, feeding the ducks, purchasing the broadsheets, finding a cafe somewhere to chill, read papers and sip coffee.

Is this pure fantasy or is this the sort of thing a lot of people get up to?

Just wondered what the rest of humanity does on this most restful of days.

Not restful for me. I'll be getting up at about 12, stock hunting in the afternoon, going to work at about 9:30pm, finish at 4am, home by 5am, cash up, update accounts, and then.... have a beer and relax. :)

Ah, the licensed trade is great isn't it? Mind you, looks like you've got more unsociable hours than most of us!

I've just been informed by my better half that Endlciffe Park is a building site at the minute. Oh Shattered dreams!

Deavon ,
Last time I was up that way , a few years ago , you could go across Rustlings Rd. where Endcliffe Park tapers to an end and into Whitely Woods Park.
Walk for about 20 minutes , or less [?] and you should come to Forge Dam cafe. Open your newspaper , order a coffee and it's plain sailing from there !
Sorry , if I'm a bit out of date. The cafe may not be there now. Also if time is important , you used to be able to catch a bus from Hunters Bar , up Rustlings Road.
Is the entrance to Endcliffe Park still the beginning of the " Nine Mile Walk " ? It used to be . You walked through Endcliffe Park , Whitely Woods Park , up Jacob's Ladder to Ringinglow Road and eventually dropped down near to Whirlow Park and , I think the trail later led over as far as Graves Park.
There's an idea for a Sheffield Sunday !

you used to be able to sit outside the Ha-Ha at the Peace Gardens and read the papers watch the world go by drinking a latte or a cappucino  .... not sure about Sunday mornings though and that's a bit of a building site round there at the moment too with all the newbuilds going up.

crowefan, why am I glad I'm not in hospital at the moment ... hope ur a cleaner and not a nurse or a doctor :help:

No, once the weather gets a little nicer, I'll be spending most of my sundays in Graves park, simply watching the world go by.

I always make a point of telling any potential employer that I "don't do sundays', for just such reason.

I have to eat a bowl of porridge  and then go for a 13 mile run. Things get better once I get back: long shower and then down to the local for the pub quiz! :)

Thanks Fareast, that sounds like a great walk for a Sunday. Very energetic! Will attempt it at some point.

So far today we've had a takeaway coffee in the Peace gardens then walked up Eccelsall Road and round Botanic gardens. (Saw the Bear in the Bear Pit). Then we cheated and took the car out to Dore Moor Inn for Sunday Roast. But it was very nice!
Then we got a bit of shopping in at Waitrose just before it shut.

Amazed by how busy Sheffield City Centre is on a Sundays now. Most shops open and a real buzz about the place.

The weather has been fantastic. Actually feel as if I've caught the sun a bit. Just think how many more sunny days are to come this year!

Really got lucky with this Sunday off work.

(Glad to hear you're feeling better Crowefan. Don't mean to be rubbing it in while you're at work today).

mmmm. sundays means lie in so I like to make the most of the day when I finally get up. Got up this morning at 9.30 (usually 5am) washed the car and took the hood down, started raining, put the hood up, dog then jumped up at car so had to rewash one side of it! mmmmm

fed the fish then got ready to go out for lunch. Let my partner drive my little convertible whilst I tried to look cool with my sunglasses on - by the time we got there I looked like a dogs dinner, hair everywhere! But had a really nice meal and then collected my pooch on the way back and sat in my sisters garden sunbathing all afternoon, well kinda relaxing as my dog likes to go through everyones garden and wont come back.

This day actually doesnt represent a normal sunday its usually spent either tidying the house and garden and walking the dog for a very long time.

But today I enjoyed it...

Well I'm going to be the first to metion the C word.

I get up at 7am and have a bath, then at 8am I wake the wife and kids.

Cook breakfast then go to Hope City Church at the Megacentre on Bernard Road for a morning of worship. Lots of loud rock music but with a holy slant...

Then take my mum home from church, go for lunch at either MD or BK then it depends on the weather.

If you are near Ice Sheffield this August and wonder why the kids and youth are camping in the Don Valley Bowl and they are better behaved than the kids that are normally at Ice Sheffield (ie not drunk and rude) this is my church, hosting Audious a Youth Conferance. Watch the video on this site to see what is in store for Sheffield

If your feeling super energetic and adventurous you could always go to the peaks and scramble amongst the boulders or go for a walk along the set pathways, the dogs and kids love it too!
i spend most of my weekends in the peaks as i go climbing with friends.....
yet get home early evening and share a glass of wine with my other half! x

i spent yesterday morning lazing in bed as usual and then had a nice drive out to Ladybower and had a walk and a sunday lunch. Very lovely. I was really surprised to find that this is what normal people actually do, as I'm usually nursing a large hangover and am unable to move !! Might have a try at this normal life thing more often!!

We've been walking the 5 Weirs walk in stages over Sunday afternoons. Really enjoyed it.

Now we're doing the canal towpath in stages. Last Sunday we commenced from the Arena and were amazed to discover the Tinsley Flight locks. Didn't know they existed. We walked all the way to Blackburn Meadows Nature Reserve (behind Magna). Again, we didn't know this place existed. There are 2 bird hides. Saw little grebe and a heron, plus loads of wild flowers. Weather permitting, this Sunday, we shall resume our walk along the canal to Rotherham.

We have been amazed at what we have discovered in Sheffield on our walks - e.g., on the 5 weirs walk - Salmon Pastures; a memorial plaque on Effingham Road to men, women and children killed by a wartime bomb; Attercliffe cemetery, etc.

Good exercise, plus history and nature (we saw a kingfisher on the river Don!).

Sundays for me means that I have to wake up at 9am to endure 6 hours at work, from 10 till 4 (NOT FOR MUCH LONGER THOUGH :D). Get home and have a full sunday lunch with my family, or go out to a pub. After we watch what is the best night of TV there is to offer all week,
this is:-
8pm - Malcolm in the Middle
8:20 - Corrie
8:40 - Father of the Pride
9pm - Joey
9:20 - Two and a Half Men
9:40 - 24
finishing for approx 10:20 thanks to Sky plus and no adverts
then I normally go upstairs and surf the internet untill approx 3am, as there is no College in the morning.

From what I remember, there werent many steps on the walk. However some of the paths were rather narrow the last time that I had done it, though it was a while ago.
